I did read that it can be eyesight dependent - I for one have very good eyesight - I'm 31 and any time I've had an eye test I can always read the charts to the very bottom with no mistakes.

I also think that HD TV is night and day over SD TV, same for Blu Ray over DVD.

However my dad, who's 65, can see no (or very little) difference between HD TV over SD, even on a 42" screen. And his eyesight is by no means "bad", he wears glasses for reading but not for TV or driving, etc.

The screen is amazing on the new iPhone--except in direct sunlight. Then again, just about any backlit display will look bad in the sun. I hope someday we'll have an iPhone that looks good in daylight.

Comparison

Comparing the iPhone 4 to the 3GS or 3G would be the same as comparing a 1080p TV to a 480i TV. With that said, some people say they cant even tell the difference in HD or SD tv.. Soooo.. But for people like us that like technology we can definitely tell

The first time you look at the retina display after using a previous iPhone and you will feel like youve been given a brand new pair of eyeballs :)

I feel like the improved contrast ratios help as well. Someone posted some pictures of an Audi R8 in the wallpaper thread, and the red on the car REALLY pops on this display.

Penn State! I'm off to University Park this fall. :)

Another Stater here :p

Disagree completely. The leap from SD to HD is huge, whereas the leap from the 3GS to 4 is not that big.

In terms of speed or display? I'll agree with the speed... but the display is HUGE leap imo (though not as big as 480i to 1080p).

I haven't been able to purchase a 4 yet (believe me, I've tried) so I'm still using the 3G, and the screen still looks sharp to me. Hopefully the 4 will be a pleasant surprise when I can actually find one.

Oh, you'll definitely know the difference when you see it.

There's also a noticeable difference between iOS4-updated apps, and apps that haven't updated yet. The app icons for older apps look... well... old. ANd very pixelated compared to updated apps.
