Went from 16 M1 max to 14 M5 Pro, will be returning the 14 inch. Yeah its much lighter but I prefer the bigger screen, better speakers, and more importantly better cooling. Also the ergonomics of the 16 is more comfortable for me, for example when using the Macbook Pro on the couch the 16 is better since have more room to rest my hands. With the 14 I get wrist pain. The 16 is still portable enough for me.

Had a friend who said my MBP was to heavy then I reminded him you have a gym membership to work out this is free.

You can never get to the bottom of this. There are people who say anything under 16" is too small, and others who say anything above 14" is too big.

I've used both for at least 1 year each, and they're both great in their own way. Whenever I used the 16" I would sometimes want a smaller/lighter laptop. Whenever I used the 14" I would sometimes miss the 16" display.

The best way is to just pick the one that feels the better fit for you, then stop comparing, and just be happy with it for many years.

16 but basically because of a combination of holding oneself to one computer for most things with only occasional separate device needs for specific presentation purposes. If it was a balanced arrangement with a primary location and more occasional portable needs, I'd likely do a studio max desktop along with a 13, 14 or 15 portable depending on RAM and screen requirements. I don't really think the 14 works all that well as a primary for my use case because aside from the display I don't think the cooling system is up to the task. Incorporating an iDevice type of vapor chamber would help.

Screen size is a big factor for the 16 because of regularly needing a two-page monitor away from the desk. Just very glad they came up with this 16-in-a-15-size-case-with-a-notch idea because the old 17's were enormous and unwieldy and I never could bring myself to get one. Though they really should go the extra step and turn the notch into a pinhole camera, it would save trouble with menu-bar management; and this is another strike against the 14 (but not the Air).
