Just having the issue recently since the last Airport utility update a few weeks back that 2011 21.5" iMac not connecting automatically after waking up from sleep. Annoying but it takes <5 seconds for me to manually reconnect........I have the current generation TC btw.

Anyone not have wireless problems with 2011 Imacs

I purchased a IMAC on Feb 1 and have had problems with it being able to connect to wireless after waking up from sleep. I had downloaded 10.7.3 and have since talked to Apple Care. I was elevated to another technical rep who spent a couple hours on the phone with me. He had me download something to my computer and he then sent it to Apple Engineers. He told me it would be a couple days before they got back to me.

He called the other day and tried two more things which didn't work. About every 2 out of 3 times my iMac won't reconnect after waking from sleep and I have to reconnect it manually. It's not hard to do that, but I certainly shouldn't have to. I was told by the rep. that Apple is aware of the problem for some people and that it is a software issue not a hardware issue. He told me I would have to unfortunately wait for a future update to hopefully fix the problem.

I have until Tuesday to return the IMAC. I am very seriously considering doing that because it seems many people have issues with this also. I originally had switched form an IMAC to a PC because my previous IMAC would drop it's connection in Snow Leopard. I was aware I was taking a chance in coming back to a Mac, but I really missed the usability, especially since I have an IPhone and will be getting a iPad 3. I also recently have purchased a Macbook Air 13 inch with 256 sad and really like that. It does take it a few seconds to reconnect after waking from sleep, but finds the connection every time.

I'm just curious if there is anyone who doesn't have this problem on IMAC's as I am considering returning this one and purchasing a new IMAC and seeing if I avoid the problem with a different one since the rep. told me it's not all of them just some. I don't want to try another one if this seems to be a really widespread problem though. Thanks

Hi, I had no problems, but saw a reference to Apple's wi fi update, and just to be up to date, downloaded it from Apple's site and installed it. It put my brand new iMac into a perpetual reboot loop. Only cure was to return iMac and get a new one in exchange. Luckily it was Best Buy and they did so immediately. Lesson learned...if it ain't broke..don't try to fix it!

I've been having problems yet again.

I bought a 21" iMac around a year ago, had nothing but problems with it forgetting my network, so I swapped it for an identical model. Once again I was having the same problems until, funnily enough, I upgraded my router to an Airport Extreme. Et Voila! The problems were gone.

And now, after upgrading to 10.7.4, the same problems have returned and I am having to reboot my iMac a couple of times a day. Incredibly frustrating, a £1,200 computer should not be having such basic problems.

touch wood i haven't had this issue. running lion. connection is pretty stable. you get the vocal minority making it seem like issue is widespread, and silent majority that don't have the issue. hope you can get it sorted, such a pleasure when things work. might be worth trying another router to see if ur imac is the issue?

For anyone having this issue, I seem to have fixed it by setting the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels to a fixed value, rather than automatic.

And now, using a 2011 iMac and Airport Extreme, I have been without these problems for 5 days.

Reading your posts on this, I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. Has the problem returned yet or did changing those settings fix it once and for all? If so could you advise how to change the settings please? I'm afraid I need instructions.

Would changing the settings you mention affect my wi-fi connection to my other devices that use it such as PS3, iPhone4S, Nintendo 3DS etc.?

Thanks

I haven't experienced any further problems since changing these settings, so for me at least it has been a permanent fix.

If you have an Apple router, use Airport Utility from the Utilities folder in Applications to locate your router. From there you will be able to set a new channel for the two frequencies, rather than having it set on automatic.

If you have a non-Apple router, search with Google for how to reach the settings page of the router to make those same changes. A lot of routers allow you to reach this page by typing in 192.168.0.1 into your browser. The password to change settings (if there is one) may be written somewhere on the outside of your router.

Hope that helps!

Just purchased an Airport Extreme from the Apple refurb store, so I'm hoping to leave my WiFi problems behind for both my Air and iMac...

that link i posted shows posts starting in May of 2011!! Does anyone really think apple plans on fixing it?

Lion issue

My MacBook 2007 C2D exhibits this problem when connected wirelessly. The MacBook worked flawlessly under Snow Leopard and has flakey internet connection since upgrading to Lion.

Have tried all the solutions I could find, but nothing stops it happening. Sometimes it will connect on waking, sometimes have to manually reconnect.

Often pages will stop loading even when it says it is connected, and only switching Airport on and off or even rebooting will fix it.

Rubbish.

Same problem

Not so much with connecting upon waking up, but just saying connected in general.

Called AppleCare and I'm currently doing a test. I've hopped onto a neighbor's wifi (with their permission) and we'll see if the computer (2011 27" iMac, 10.7.4) stays connected. If it does, there is some compatibility issue with the computer and my AirPort Express. Because our AirPort Express is still pumping out signal from our cable modem just fine, and our iOS devices in our home are still connected the the home network.

I just checked in with my wife at home and she said it's stayed connected the whole day so far. (3pm as i write this) It would normally lose connection several times within an hour, so this is a breakthrough in getting to the problem.

Has anyone tried the new Airport Express to solve this problem? (the one that looks like the Apple TV box) I currently have the while power strip model.

My wife is a first time iMac user with a 1 week old 27" iMac, 10.7.3 using a Wireless N connection to a Netgear WNDR3700.

She is experencing the same problem when leaving Safari open and leaving the computer idle for an extended period (a few hours) and returning and finding that the connection has been lost.

Options to get going again are restart the computer or go into the network connection and then re-enter the password when prompted.

Will try ensuring that Safari is shut down before leaving the computer and see if the problem persists.

It was my ISP

I too had my WiFi keep dropping in Mountain Lion (had to reset router every time.) and it would not be active when my 21.5 Mid 2011 iMac awoke from sleep. I tried everything I could find.

Well, I was livid when Charter communications went down for over 10 hours. But when it came back up, all problems were solved, for awhile. I then was told to change my router (mine is an Ambit) to channel 11 under Wireless. Presto! No problems since. (about 8 days now)
