Hi so I bought a s4 watch with ecg from usa. Nowadays I’m outside US.
My ecg function is working fine but I’m worried that installing 5.2 OS will disable my existing ecg feature outside usa.
Can anyone confirm either way? Thanks!
Have you installed iOS 12.2? Is ecg still working fine?
I've not updated my iphone or watch yet.
[doublepost=1553610151][/doublepost]Apologies I thought WatchOS 5.2 has been released yesterday! When is it due to be released? Thanks!
WatchOS 5.2 drops tomorrow, because I’m from Denmark and my operator will release eSIM for Apple Watch friday morning. They told me that the watch need 5.2 to activate eSIM.
I hope you are right HendoWatchOS 5.2 drops tomorrow, because I’m from Denmark and my operator will release eSIM for Apple Watch friday morning. They told me that the watch need 5.2 to activate eSIM.
Hoping for a brave soul who will confirm EKG function will still work on an USA bought apple watch that is used outside American soil with the coming watchOS 5.2.
You said it buddy, that one way street also give me the creeps.
[doublepost=1553733134][/doublepost]Well, I've done it. Ventured into the unkown and went boldly where no man has gone before. Updated to WatchOS 5.2 and the darn EKG still works here in Brazil. It was a leap of faith (or stupidity) but I'm glad with the results. Hope it gives a little hope that it could work for you too. Again, I'm telling what happened in my particular case, a Apple Watch bought in USA and used in Brazil using iOS 12.2.

Ok just updated my iPhone to 12.2 and not updating my watch to 5.2 yet! Ecg fine
I can confirm it's safe for users outside the US to update without loosing ECG: the app is still working for me here in Mexico after updating to iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2 (and I also didn't get the wallet bug that affected some people). As long as you had already set up ECG and used it for the first time before updating, ECG will continue to work even after updating. The new location check seems to be performed only during the first time setup rather than constantly, and so ECG will be disabled only for those who try to set up ECG for the first time while running iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2 and located outside a supported country. The good news is watchOS 5.2 brought ECG to many more countries other than the US.Hoping for a brave soul who will confirm EKG function will still work on an USA bought apple watch that is used outside American soil with the coming watchOS 5.2.
If you already set up ECG and used it before, you can go ahead and update to iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2. You won't lose ECG, I can confirm that after updating here in Mexico with ECG still working fine afterwards. If you haven't set up ECG, just make sure you set it up and take at least one ECG before you update.I’m in same situation in India with US bought watch s4. I need ECG for my dad so I’m not updating
I can confirm. I am using ECG here in Mexico and I updated to iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2. ECG still works fine. Also, with watchOS 5.2 ECG is no longer exclusive to the US: it is now available in another 19 countries.Hoping for a brave soul who will confirm EKG function will still work on an USA bought apple watch that is used outside American soil with the coming watchOS 5.2.
A brave soul.
The next test would be to see if it would survive a full clean installation of the Watch or the phone (not asking you to do that).
The article that suggested that these updates may bring problems noted that the block occurred during the setup process. If any additional flag (beyond the model designation) was added, it could be wiped depending on how/where it is stored (perhaps in the backup?), and may not survive a wipe of either device.
Really depends on how the implemented it.
