Anyone outside US whose US Apple Watch’s ecg stopped working after OS 5.2?

I've not updated my iphone or watch yet.

I'm in Canada with a US model AW4. ECG has been working fine but I'm afraid to update. I'd like to get the security updates of ios 12.2 but do not want to lose ECG.
Hoping for a brave soul who will confirm EKG function will still work on an USA bought apple watch that is used outside American soil with the coming watchOS 5.2.
Brave soul indeed. If only we could roll back the firmware as easily on watches as on phones.

I’m in same situation in India with US bought watch s4. I need ECG for my dad so I’m not updating

The next test would be to see if it would survive a full clean installation of the Watch or the phone (not asking you to do that).
The article that suggested that these updates may bring problems noted that the block occurred during the setup process. If any additional flag (beyond the model designation) was added, it could be wiped depending on how/where it is stored (perhaps in the backup?), and may not survive a wipe of either device.
Really depends on how the implemented it.
I guess you’re right. Good observation. A clean installation probably would bring about the denying of the app’s functionality outside US during the setup process by asking or simply find out the watch’s current location. That may occur only in that scenario and I’m glad it wasn’t my case. A valid and useful warning for those who need to undergo this process.
Go ahead and update to watchos 5.2. Your ECG will be fine. I updated both and all is well with ECG.
I can confirm it's safe for users outside the US to update without loosing ECG: the app is still working for me here in Mexico after updating to iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2 (and I also didn't get the wallet bug that affected some people). As long as you had already set up ECG and used it for the first time before updating, ECG will continue to work even after updating. The new location check seems to be performed only during the first time setup rather than constantly, and so ECG will be disabled only for those who try to set up ECG for the first time while running iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2 and located outside a supported country. The good news is watchOS 5.2 brought ECG to many more countries other than the US.

If you already set up ECG and used it before, you can go ahead and update to iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2. You won't lose ECG, I can confirm that after updating here in Mexico with ECG still working fine afterwards. If you haven't set up ECG, just make sure you set it up and take at least one ECG before you update.

I can confirm. I am using ECG here in Mexico and I updated to iOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2. ECG still works fine. Also, with watchOS 5.2 ECG is no longer exclusive to the US: it is now available in another 19 countries.

Well a clean install means you wiped out and restored your device(s) to factory defaults, therefore when you try to use ECG for the first time after the install it will be just as though you had just unboxed your iPhone and/or Apple Watch and were setting up ECG for the very first time: you won't be able to complete the ECG setup if you're located outside the supported countries.
