Been looking at this case for a while after not being happy with the Cover Buddy. Read through the threads on here mentioning the Pitaka case but not very much detailed info to be found except for a few photos of it. Thinking about buying it tomorrow as I believe Pitaka will be having a sale.

Would love to hear some feedback/opinions on the case from anyone who actually owns and uses it.

Thanks in advance and happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

@Rory76 thank you!

I just purchased (&replying on my 2018 iPad Pto) n just seen your post! The magnet capability of the case will be a huge boost to my work from home setup! Not to mention I’ve also just ordered iPhone 12 mini case n their 6-in-1 wireless charging hub!

Happy to have helped! Just got mine. Steep price for it but I gotta say it works and looks great. Magnets that attach the Pitaka case to the Magic Keyboard are super strong, smart connecter of the case looks well constructed and works perfectly with the Magic Keyboard, and best of all, the case fits absolutely perfectly in the Magic Keyboard case. I have a .3mm thick PET film screen protector on my Pro and the MK case still closes easily and completely. Bonus that it fits in the Apple smart folio (non keyboard) just as well. So, there’s a seamless transition between my three uses for the case...when wanting to have lightweight and front protection and using it with the Apple folio, using the iPad in the Pitaka case on its own, and using it with the Magic Keyboard. Only thing that concerns me about the case is the super short warranty Pitaka offers on it. Kinda makes me feel the company doesn’t have much faith in terms of the case’s build quality and longevity. Luckily, my credit card offers an additional 2 years on top of the few months Pitaka offers so that makes me feel better. All and all, much better product (and wider range of options with it) than I expected.

Does the case add noticeable weight to the iPad? Thanks.

Amazon just delivered the Pitaka case to my door about 30 minutes ago. The case really weighs next to nothing. Snaps on easy, buttons are reasonably clicky, and I can confirm that it works perfectly with the Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and the ESR clone of the Apple Smart Folio (magnetic ESR Rebound Smart Folio).. All three close completely with no lifting or binding, and function exactly as they did without the Pitaka installed. The pen retainer flap on the ESR folio continues to work as well as before too. The only thing I can point out is the the Apple Pencil 2 doesn’t magnetically dock quite as forcefully as it did when the iPad was nude, but it still latches on just fine. If you’ve had a Pitaka case on a phone before, you know how grippy the coating on the case itself is, and this is no different. It’s going to make holding my 12.9 Pro much easier when it’s undocked from a keyboard and in tablet mode. It’s also much less likely to slide down my leg or off my lap while I’m reading. The perimeter of the case stands proud of the screen maybe 1mm, which also means I can now set my tablet face down on a table without worrying about scratching the screen.

Yes the case is expensive, but considering the size and how their iPhone cases (with about 10% of the material) cost nearly the same, I’d say it’s a decent buy. I’m not sending mine back!!

If I didn’t want/need a keyboard, I’d simply buy the ESR case for $20 instead of paying $100 for the Apple version, add this case to the iPad for the added protection and functionality, and still come out ahead.

Two thumbs (and a couple big toes) up on this one.

Just got mine in the post directly from Pitaka and i gotta say it’s pretty spot on. Ive got a spigen screen protector on it too and it closes just fine. Definitely a must buy if you’re getting a magic keyboard for me.

What did you not like about the Cover Buddy? I recently purchased a 11" iPP and looking at all options. Cover Buddy is 1/2 the price - but may be 1/2 the case? or less :)

I’m also considering the Pitaka case. Had the coverbuddy, and had one connection pin on the case fall out on 2 occasions with 1 year making the case unusable. The first time they sent a quick replacement. Then when one of the pins fell out on that second one, they were just nice enough to refund my money on Amazon. Customer service was good, but I cant say the case quality is good. I will not be spending money again on the coverbuddy due to their quality issues that I’ve experienced. customer service is good if you want to take a chance with coverbuddy.

Just received the Pitaka case today for the iPad Pro 11 with the Smart folio keyboard. I was using the Coverbuddy but returned it because I dont like the look of the Apple Pencil holder.

So far, I like the look of the Pitaka case. However, there is one thing that bother me a lot and that I haven’t heard in any of the reviews. The magnet on the case is so weak compared the the coverbuddy. I’d say while coverbuddy lost about 30% of stickiness to the smart folio keyboard, the Pitaka case lost about 60%. Don’t know if I made the right choice switching from the Coverbuddy to the Pitaka. Does anyone know if this case sticks better on the Smart Keyboard?

Could it be you got a faulty product?
No other reviewer on Youtube that I watched addressing about the magnet issue.

No idea, I mean, it still sticks to the Smart Folio and I have no problem using it on my desk. But when I pick it up, I have to be extra cautious that it might drop.
Maybe I’ll buy another one on Amazon to test it out?

I haven’t had any magnet related issues with mine. Seems to stick to the Magic Keyboard and my ESR magnetic folio as well as it did without the case. No slipping or questionable attachment. I’m guessing that maybe you got a faulty unit? Pitaka support might like to know about this and can likely assist.

As others have said, no magnet issues here with my pitaka case. One could argue its a little too strong (but not me) it clamps on really well

Coming from the cover buddy, I just received the Pitaka case too. And the magnets are definitely strong on mine using it w the magic keyboard, similar to having the cover buddy on and even similar to without any case. Quality of the pitaka is definitely much much better!! I had the connection pins fall out on 2 occasions on my previous cover buddy and it’s replacement, and that also started developing cracks around the opening for the power button. I can already tell the connection pins here appear much more sturdy and the whole case more sturdy. Also my iPad stays fully closed w the pitaka and having a glass screen protector, which was not the case with the cover buddy. So far impressed w pitaka. More expensive than cover buddy but definitely worth the higher cost I feel!

Looks like my Pitaka case is not strong as most of yours... I bought it directly from Pitaka and it took almost a month to get it (I'm in Canada). Don't know if I could send it back or I'll just keep it and live with it..

P.S: Don't know if this could have anything to do with it, but I'm using it with the Smart Folio Keyboard (the 1st generation with the cutout for one camera only)

Can you use a Smart Cover with the Pitaka, when you take it off the magic keyboard?
Probably not. According to their website, the case is compatible with the magic keyboard and smart keyboard folio. They do not mention the smart cover.

The iPad Air 4th Gen has a Smart Cover the 12.9 and 11 inch Pro’s I think not. From the Pitaka web site:

“Compatibility
Use with an iPad Pro 11in / 12.9in 2018 and 2020Use with an iPad Air 2020 10.9inCompatible with the Apple Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio.MagEZ Case for iPad Pro and iPad Air is not compatible with a screen protector. Using a screen protector may prevent the iPad and Magic Keyboard from closing fully.”

The main issue seems to be using it with a screen proctor. The rear on the case does have a cut out so I see an issue with a Smart Cover, since the edge is not covered by the Pitaka case as is a about 1/2inch strip on the rear of the case.
