I live in the Philly Burbs, far NW burbs. The most people I've ever seen at my Local AT&T store for a launch was 9 people. Needless to say, I'll roll into the store before lunch and grab mine.

Sorry Pa'ers, I will selfishly not reveal the store til after I get mine. :D

I hope it's a corporate store, because the authorized resellers often just get a handfull phones, often not even every color/capacity

I'll be doing a drive-by Apple Ardmore, PA at about 11pm on the 19th to see what it's looking like. If there are over 15-20 people in line at that time I will park the car and join the line. If it looks scarce at 11pm, I will probably head home for a few hours and show back up somewhere around 3am.

Anyone else going to Ardmore store?

I'm going to be at the Walnut Street store probably around 2-3am.

I'm gonna line up in my study. In front of my computer next to a nice cold coke. It has great proximity to a bathroom w no lines. :)

Not many choices out there, so must be Lehigh Valley Mall. Guess I'll head there too...

Nope, more South. ;)

And to the other one who quoted me, yes it is a true AT&T store, not a re-seller. I learned a long time ago that many resellers are crooks and you later find out that you bought towing insurance and the like without your knowledge.

Oh never mind, you said ATT store. I thought you said Apple.

I'll be going to the closest AT&T store the morning of launch, probably around 5-ish. It should be pretty interesting, as next door to it (might be one store between them) is a Verizon store, with a Sprint store around the corner. There's also a Best Buy and a Target in the same shopping center, so I'm curious to see how many people will be out waiting for their phones.

Probably equal. Ardmore I think is a better place to line up. More open, more comfortable, quieter & less crazy. Still a lot of people (from past experience), but just a bit less cluttered.

If I got there around 1 AM, how many people would typically be there around that time in years past?

With this launch, I'm not too sure. But if I had to guess...I'd say there will be about 50+ people at 1am. That's about what time I plan on going. Are you going to ardmore?

Can't decide.

It's not an ideal location from home, and because I am going down to the Eagles' game from work in KOP, I was going to have my wife meet me at work, drive down to the game and come back here. If I do Ardmore, I might want her to meet me in the parking lot there and then go to the game from there.

Decisions, decisions. I wonder if, with 50 people already in line (which I think it a good guess) I'll get what I want.

I live all the way up in Souderton, so another option for me would be the Lehigh Valley mall where, last year the first person reported getting in line at 3 AM....

I feel like now that the KOP store is bigger, they'll get more stock. It all comes down to a numbers game!

I'm curious, if you camp overnight, how do you go to the bathroom? I mean, if you leave the line to take a poop, you will lose your place.

It's not like that at all. Have you ever stood in line for more than an hour for concert tickets, or even in line at Disneyland?

You get to know the people around you, and you ask them to hold your spot while you go out to the bathroom, and maybe 'bring them back donuts or coffee' or something.

It's how lines work. Everyone gets to know the people around them, and have no problems with people leaving and coming back, as long as it's the same people and for short periods of time.

I will never understand why it is so mandatory to get the phone on day 1 when you can order it for a few days or a week later. Are you going to go up to strangers and let them know you got the fingerprint phone? Will they care? In a month anyone who wants will be able to get. I guess I'm too old (35) to where I would kill time waiting on line vs. having it sent to me.

Clearly older age has not endowed you with the wisdom to grasp that different people are excited/stimulated by differnt things.

Does the apple store generally have a coffee bar or a red-bull promotion or something similar on launch day for those who camp out? When I camped out for the original 3g, I was awake for something like 52 hours straight. When I finally got to my car I was so delirious that I wound up leaving the phone on the roof while I put my tent and bongos in the truck, drove off, and well, I had a Motorola Star-Tak for another year.

Some people get the 'rush' and 'excitement' of getting something first, before anyone else. And standing in line for hours to get that feeling gives that sense of accomplishment that can't be done online.

It could be something as simple as going to McDonalds on the first day they sell their latest incarnation of the Quarter Pounder. It's not that the product has to be amazing, the 'rush' to get this product, and be one of the first people to have an opinion on this product is what makes some people enjoy this.

I have a part of this in me, and a part of the opposite in me too.

I'm hoping to get the new 5s Friday because my current iPhone 4 is cracked and has been very buggy lately - to the point where it will sometimes freeze up when I try to answer a call. So yea, I'd rather not wait a month to get the new iPhone 5s, when I have a chance to purchase it Friday. Plus, my weekend is unusually free this weekend, so I will have plenty of time to learn about the new capabilities on the phone, especially since it is very different from my current iPhone 4.

I live in the middle of Kansas and the closest Apple store is over two hours away. I get off work at 11pm Thursday night and am going to drive by my local Verizon corporate store and check what's happening there. If no one is there, I'll check back in a few hours. But I feel that I won't have a problem getting one.

There is somewhat of a logical explanation as well. I think people want their 2 year contract to begin as early as possible to they can be sure they'll be ready to upgrade in 2 years.

For example: for the sake of argument lets say apple releases the iphone "6S" exactly 2 years from Friday. A person who (who has a strict 2 year upgrade cycle) was able to upgrade on launch day will be eligible for upgrade in exactly 2 years.

But the same person who couldn't get his/her hands on an iphone on launch day may be delayed by as long as a month. So, in 2 years, they will have to wait at least a month after launch before even attempting to get a phone.

I know that most contracts aren't this strict but I think that some of the carriers have tightened up their early upgrades.

I don't understand why people give out their positions. If the idea is to get a phone, then why tell the world where you'll be. That lessens the chance for you to get what you want if more people show up there.

For me, it frees up my phone so I can sell it. And I feel like the quicker I sell, the better.

Ardmore is actually a much bigger store. But I'm sure KoP will have plenty of stock. Whatever you decide to do, good luck. Hopefully it's not a full blown madhouse...But I know it's going to be. As the days pass, my line-up time gets earlier and eariler. lol!

I may do ardmore then... I just don't know!
