Hi

Have you thought about keeping your iP 11 Pro Max for longer than one year? Sometimes I feel compelled to upgrade. Other times I feel it is a case of diminishing returns and a perpetual ongoing expense. I went from an SX Max to an 11 Pro Max and really like the new phone.

XS Max to 11 Pro Max. I will probably "upgrade" next year because (1) I expect some hardware changes (5G, for example) and (2) the IUP makes it almost friction-free economically - if phone prices don't go up (and they didn't this year), the only out-of-pocket damage is paying the sales tax again, assuming you don't mind extending your iPhone commitment by another year and you're not allergic to annual credit checks.

I keep all my iPhones

I used to keep old phones as backups. Since the IUP forces you to buy AC+, and since IMO it's economically advantageous to update at the one year mark with the IUP, I figure that AC+ is my "backup phone."

I upgrade as and when I feel it’s worth it, I had a 6, skipped the 6S, had a 7, got a X the following year, skipped the XS, got a
11 Pro this year. I’ll get a 12 if the upgrade is worth it

Have the 6s+ but going to the 11PM due to my phone having developed the 'Headphones mode' speaker problem.

I most certainly would have stuck with 6s+ until 2020, with my 3.5mm headjack + TouchID + 3D Touch + $30 Apple battery replacement last year, if I could have.

So yeah - I'm planning to keep my soon 11PM for at least 3 years; 2 years of increments just isn't as great of a cycle of improvements anymore as it used to be when I was upgrading every 2 years (3GS - 4S - 5S - 6S+).

Me. I only do the number upgrades.

My iphone history is as follows:

Original iPhone>>3GS (because the hold button broke). 4S (because the 3GS kept having issues). iPhone 5. iPhone 6 Plus. iPhone 7 Plus. iPhone X. iPhone 11 Max. IF next year's phone is dubbed the 12, I'll get it. I try never to get the S phones unless my phone breaks.

Seems they didn’t follow suit with the 11. It’s easily could be called an XSS. A new number used to imply a new form factor.

I've tried to do every 2 years as of late due to non motivating reasons to upgrade every year. For all the people who feel like next year is going to be such a big year I say "Good Luck". I don't think Apple is going to do anything earth shattering TBH. If they don't I will keep this phone for a couple of years.

The upgrades have turned more into very mild evolutions of the product since the X. I don't think I'll be upgrading into the next iPhone 11s Pro Max or whatever it will be called as I'd like more substantial design changes.

If we are expecting a new iPhone to be like when the iPhone 4 was introduced, it's going to be a while apparently.

The intention of this tread was to ask people NOT on IUP about whether they would keep their new Pro phone beyond one year. I could have been clearer.

if you are currently on the IUP program and intend to hopefully upgrade yearly, please do not respond.

Just came from an iPhone 7 Plus to the 11 Pro Max, so skipped 3 generations. My intent is to do the same with this one. I chuckle a bit with many of the "it's the same as last year" complaints which is due to wait for it... upgrading every year! The 11 Pro Max is an incredible upgrade coming from a 7 plus!

I started using smartphones in 2004 and would buy something every single year and sometimes more than once a year (going back/forth from Android to IOS). It got to the point a few years ago where the devices were more than good enough to easily last several years and I lost the urge to constantly upgrade. I just enjoy what I have.

Of course, everyone is different, so do whatever makes you happy.

The vast majority pays monthly through carrier. That is basically iUP since carriers let you (encourage you) trade up.

Im annoyed they started the 3 year design cycle, Im was fine keeping phone for 2 years when the design changed.
However I dont want to have a phone for longer than 2 years so I got the pro max but I want the redesign, so yes I will be upgrading next year
