Hi

Anyone planning to use the new Magic keyboard With the iPad 11 Pro?The emphasis seems to be on the larger iPad.

Well the guy that showed the first videos showed it on an 11inch ipad from 2018 and it looks absolutely orgasmic. So yeah. As someone with an 11inch pad, I’m stoked for it. It’s expensive and yet? I’m gonna use it every single day for years and years. So I’ll get my value out of it

Hopefully it doesn't break after a year or two like the old Smart Keyboard.
More complexity and features means more ways it can break. Just wait for the new threads about magic keyboard issues incoming.

Let’s make predictions: something will happen with the hinge that pisses people off. Hinge gate!

I’m you will see the stupid bend tests to try and snap it like you do with the phones/tablets.

All of this negativity does nothing to answer my original question. If you have the 11 inch IPP, will you be getting the new Magic Keyboard? Please keep to the question.

thanks.

I think that it would be interesting in general to see how people plan to use the magic keyboard and with which iPad size. I am interested as you in this :).

The negativity critical opinion negativity is due to the observed product shortcomings and is part of an intelligent pre-purchase discussion.

That said, I now think I would prefer the Magic Keyboard on the 11 rather than the 12.9. If I want to turn my iPad into a “computer” then I’d want more than a crippled keyboard and a slightly elevated stand. So if what I want is to occasionally add portable computer functionality to an iPad then the smaller size and lower weight of the 11 version may be more appealing.

With the material they're using this won't be lasting years
AppleCare+

Fortunately they added “Apple-Branded Keyboard Coverage” to AppleCare+
Unfortunately that does nothing for those 2018 owners out of warranty or only have 2 months AC+ left

The materials are better than the fraying, finicky Smart Keyboard so Thats good. But There’s also a LOT more complexity with the hinge, physical keys and physical trackpad. So I do feel like some legitimate concerns are going to hit the 1.0 buyers.

Bend Tests are gimmicky and dont depict real world usage, but there is a benefit in seeing someone intentionally push a product beyond its limits. And with something like this where those hinges are so thin and will be moving so much I’m fine with trading clicks just to see someone else break it before I do.

I've already purchased mine and it should arrive next week and I have an iPad Pro 11.

It'll be replacing the Brydge keyboard that I have.

Ordered for the 2020 11” iPad Pro. I also have a 2018 12.9” but I have a trackpad for that. It will probably be just a kitchen computer from now on. I need the new magic keyboard for portability. We’ll see how it goes.

Which will be the kitchen computer?

My thought is to make the 2018 12.9” the kitchen computer though honestly I will probably sell it. So much is up in the air right now. The 12.9” is much better for my use if I use it to work remotely because I can use it as a thin-client to my Mac Pro located in my home office. The larger screen helps quite a bit. But given that my most likely next gig is working from home, the remote thing is less important. I assume at some point I will be able to go out for coffee or lunch in which case the smaller screen is more portable and good enough if I need to remote in.

I have the 2020 11. I’m thinking no because I mainly use this as a tablet. And I have a nice MacBook Pro for heavy typing that I need a few times a year. In the 11 I can type using the small keyboard. I might get the Smart Keyboard since I can flip i back and use it as a tablet. But the magic keyboard had a few cons thats hard to live with. Like the heavy weight isn’t good. And lack of flipping the keyboard around to the back isn’t good.
