The only heat I've had has been in the rare circumstance of charging an iphone in an extremely low charge condition. And even then it was tolerable. I've spoken to the tech support guy, and I believe they'll quickly replace defective units.

I really love this case and I've found some other mentions on the web of people who feel likewise. The form factor, features, and battery life are really far beyond anything out there IMO

Ok so after testing two units, the one that would flicker (turn on and off all the time) and gets frying pan hot is most likely defective because the other unit does not get this hot and does not flicker. But it still gets very warm.

i emailed exogear regarding the logo on the bottom coming off and it is very sharp. they will send me a new unit once their engineers fix the problem.

Dear Valued Customer,

It has come to our attention that on some units of our exolife battery case for the iPhone 4, the front logo plate is lifting off the surface. The front logo plate is the black acrylic piece with "EXOGEAR" written on it. (Please see attached image for reference). The top corners of the logo plate are very sharp, so please use proper CAUTION TO AVOID INJURY TO SELF OR OTHERS.

Our engineers are working to fix this problem right away. As soon as the new units are ready, we will send one out to you free of charge. We anticipate that we will send the new units to you within 30 days. There is no need to return the units that you currently have. You may keep them or properly dispose of them, but please do not resell or give them to others as we do not want any defective units out there possibly injuring someone.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we resolve this problem.

Who ever follows me on Twitter, I gave away an Exolife yesterday :)
Now I'm down to 3 (2 non defective units lol)

So it's a snap case, not a slider.

I think I'll wait until Mophie has one for the iP4.

I'd be very interested in trying out this exogear case. Any chance of giving away another or for testing for following? I'm still deciding between this and the upcoming Mili one which will be out on the 20th.

I ordered mine yesterday.
I sent off an email right after and got a quick reply about the heating issue.

This is the reply

"We are aware of this issue and we have resolved the issue for newer units.

Regards,"

My kensington travel battery pack last longer than the exogear. I cant wait for the mophie to come out.

My kensington travel battery pack last longer than the exogear. I cant wait for the mophie to come out.

My Exogear lasts about 3 times longer than my mophie juice pack airs (of which I had four). I NEVER got through a day with the ANY life left in my mophie or with anywhere NEAR 100% on my iphone. With exogear I always end the day with 100% on my iphone and AT LEAST 50% left in my exogear. I often switched to a newly charged mophie mid day. There's absolutely no comparison.

One big reason is that they all use a very large percentage of their battery life on just running their electronics. But the exogear always shuts off as soon as the iphone is charged. (Thus actually running a very small percent of the time) The mophie and all other batteries don't have that ability. The difference in total capacity is also a factor in this.

If you're avoiding the exogear because of his 70% recharge claim, I suspect you'll be way more disappointed with the mophie.

Well yes but the other still get pretty warm. Say just like if you would use your iPhone on 3G for an hour on Safari or YouTube.

I got two exogears. One turns out to have the heat problem, the other does not. When I use the good one, I most often turn it on when my iphone gets to 90% or less. In those conditions, I never see any warmth at all.

I would never turn on my mophie at 90% because, with out an auto shut off, too often I would forget to shut it off myself and I'd end up wasting a lot of battery life. I always had to time it to the last minute to be safe and minimize excess run time.

My normal every day experience of the exogear is just incredible.

Thanks Pete. I preordered one but canceled since I am pretty happy with my battery. Might still get one.
