I've used windows all my life, and 4 days ago i purchased the Air, and I love it! although I wish the screen was 15' but that's no big deal.

The same for me, I've been a Windows user for almost 20 years and one month ago got my first Mac, an 11 inch 2014 Macbook Air. Can't believe I spent that much time using Windows.

I have both a rMBP 13 and a MBA 13 looking at them side by side the Yosemite looks ok on the MBA, but, it looks amazingly crisp and clear on the rMBP.

The keyboard on the rMBP has a tiny bit more travel (though not as much as the cMBP upon which this is being typed!) which is a plus for me as I do not use the palm/wrist rests.

ditto. i have both as well. (well i use the rMBP and my wife the MBA) to be honest i almost regret not getting the Air for myself as well. .... I mean don't get me wrong that retina display is rather nice... but the air just feels lighter more nimble in a way (there factually isn't that big of a difference in weight). I know its not like to ascribe nimbleness to computer but there is something about the air, placing it in a messenger bag for example (wile dimensionally bigger than the rMBP) seems easier, holding it with one hand seems natural.

to add to these more effervescent judgments the fact that the battery life is just absolutely spectacular (even on the higher clocked models) and it really is better,

and every time i think all this, i inadvertently remember the retina...

Same story here! Couldn't do crap with my iPad, glad I got this 11-inch beauty. Doing all my school stuff with it, including heavy spreadsheets, coding, etc.

I had the iPad 2 for awhile and loved it but always knew in the back of my head "this is literally an enlarged iPhone". It eventually got stepped on and from there on I lost interest in it and didn't use it anymore.

Anyway fast forward to now and I wanted another portable device. The new iPad which came out didn't even spark my interest at all. They're toys, and every iteration is the same thing. slightly better processor, slightly better graphics, slightly better camera, and slightly thinner. Its gotten so old.

So I got the 11' MBA. and I LOVE IT. Seriously the best computer i've ever owned. And the best part is that its an actual computer and not some toy.

Same here. Bought my first mac 2 months ago - couldn't resist $650 11" air at best buy and decided to give it a try. I have 4 PCs I've built myself and a lenovo and dell laptop.

Wow, I love this little laptop. It kills any windows laptop I've ever had. I love using it so much on the couch, it is slowly replacing my iPads. The touchpad is incredibly smooth, i don't even miss the touchscreen of the iPad.

The apple halo effect is almost complete for me. Bought my first apple product since 1993(iPad 2). Went from Samsung s3 to my first iPhone(5s). Now I'm thinking of getting the older mac mini :) I was such a hater once, I even bought a zune over the iPod!

No regrets here, ive got a 2011 MBA and the only reason im going to upgrade is the poor battery life which is much better in the newer models. Best computer ive ever owned to the point where my 2012 27" iMac hardly gets used. Alot of people hate the screen but it is fine for surfing the web ect.

No regrets with my mid-2012 MBA. Light. Runs cool. Battery still around 80 percent. This thing is choice. If I needed a new laptop today, I'd definitely go with another MBA.

to be honest.. i regret a little bit.. 2 months later the Macbook Pro Retina 2014 came out.. it was the same price as the Air..:p

Perhaps only a little bit. I also have a 15" late 2013 rMBP maxed out. It is a lovely machine but I don't need it for work on my current assignment and it is too large to be carrying around all day for simply surfing the web. I picked up an 8GB i7 MBA with Applecare still left on it off ebay and it is a lovely little machine for surfing etc.
But man the screen is bad compared to retina, not just the resolution, the colours, viewing angles etc. Apple should be pretty ashamed putting these panels in a laptop tbh, here's hoping the new model sorts it out.

On OS X the rMP13 is beatiful and smooth, on Windows the resolution is ****ed up and choppy. I also noticed that I dont really need the retina display. Im gonna get a Macbook Air with the new Boradwell CPUS when they come out, I just hope some models dont have a retina display. I will give my rmp to my grandmother then

For you who complain color on Air, have you tried customize your color profile? It make big different! I frequently saw people used MacBook Air with washed color, which is big no for me. Fortunately mine is beautiful color after customize the color profile (of course it still below retina) but much more pleasant compared to the default unmodified color profile.

I have a mid-2013 MBA as per my signature.
It's worked flawlessly, I'm very happy with it.
I like having a "real" computer I can take with me pretty much anywhere.

I have to say I love the 11" MBA (2014) and would not look back. I was initially going to purchase the 13" RMBP but then found the weight, portability & battery life not suitable for my requirements. So then looked at the 13" MBA and was not happy with the size so then decided to go for the 11" MBA and I love it.

I never think twice about picking it up and taking it with me, it fits into my bag snuggly and the weight is so light. I went for the top spec model and is super fast with great battery life, with 512GB this is because I do alot of GoPro HD videos.

:)

Well I bought a 13" 2013 Air and it was too big. I switched it for a 11" and best laptop ever. Mind you, I have an iPad, mac mini and PC around me, but when you want to screen share or just do basic things, you can't beat an 11"!
Hehehehe that's what she said.

Any new profiles for Yosemite? I'm still using the MacRumor color profile but was wondering if any new ones have come out? I have a LG screen.

I have a 2010 13" refurb that has been flawless for 4 years.... I just bought a refurb 15" rMBP because I do a lot of spreadsheet work, and will try that for a while. If I like the 15" rMBP, I will keep it, and sell the 2010 MBA for about $500 on Ebay.

I'm using a 2012 11" MBA, and my wife has a 13" MBA from the same year. Both are our primary machines. I use mine mainly for writing and some hobby-level programming while she works a lot with design applications like AutoCAD, Photoshop and Illustrator.

We're both very happy with our laptops, and wouldn't know any reason to use an MBP instead.

I'm between the Air and the MBP Retina both 13' ....

I'm drawn by that screen but love the thinness of the Air .....

Thoughts?

I slightly regret getting my MacBook Air 13", as I wished I would have just bought a regular non-retina MacBook Pro 13". However, I love my Air and I will probably stick with it for a long time. I highly recommend it!

Plus one, sounds like an issue with the OP. Naturally it is not a retina but as good as laptop screens come. Calibrate it and it is fantastic.

I couldn't think of a single benefit the 13" MBP has other than perhaps the screen that you don't have ????

I believe the non-retina 13" MBP lets you swap the RAM, hard drive, and battery very easily (and with standard parts). So you could get a Mac laptop with 16GB of RAM and a ~500GB SSD for closer to $1400 vs. $2000 for a retina MBP. Also it has an optical drive if you need that for some reason.

So compared to the Macbook Air 13" you will get not only a heaver computer, it will also have slower RAM, slower SSD, slower graphics card. And it will be more expensive....Sorry but as I said, I really don't see the advantage of a none retina MBP 13" over a MBP Air 13"...

I agree with both. The MacBook Air screen is TFT (LED). Which probably keeps price, power consumption and weight/thickness down but the screen has poor viewing angles, average luminosity and a limited colour gamut (6-bit).

It is a shame such a great machine comes with such low-grade display. I think the 13" one is better than the 11" one, and both are better than many other laptops, but they are nowhere near a good IPS display like the one in the iMac.

Calibrating the display does help with having good display colours. Choose a location with the same light conditions as where you will use it most of the time and generate a manual colour profile. The Mac OS X colour profiler is quite nice.

No need to be sorry, I wouldn't get the MBP either, but it's pretty easy to understand why somebody would if it costs $600 less.
