Anyone regretting the iMac 24"?

Yup everything is up to date and i am dong it right. There is a small gorup of us with this problem. It sucks no 3D windows gaming fo me.

I've had my 24" imac for 3 months now and it is just an incredible machine. I "upgraded" from a Dual 2.0 Powermac w/20" Cinema display and this thing beats it hands down in everything. For my needs, I couldn't see going back to that giant entity on my desktop. With 2GB of RAM and the 7600GT video card, this thing screams and it is SO quiet. My Powermac's fans were always going off making a bunch of ruckus, especially coming back from sleeping.
The only thing that I would wish for is more native Firewire and USB connections. I did purchase a stand alone Belkin USB hub which solves my connectivity issues, but it would have been nice to have more on the back of the iMac. A small sacrifice to all of the benefits.
Buyers remorse? Not a second of it....😀

wel you piad 1699$ for yours i paid 2200$ for mine, but mines maxed out other than the processor, but i regretted it for a little while but its a very stunning computer. i had a 20" G5 imac before this but the extra inches plus the upgraded processor did it for me so it will tide me over for a while.

i agree 100% ont his the screens are very bright i leave my at 50% most of the time, the 24" screen is very nice and bright its so crisp and bright when i attachced my 20" dell 2007 to it. The dell just looked horrible compared to the 24" iMac. So bad i sold it because going from 24" at 50% to the dell brightness just kinda threw my mind for a loop so i threw the dell money into buy my gf a mb fund. And im Happy.

i have arc-shaped lines
i have arc-shaped stains (slightly darker) just under the iSight.
First I thougt it was dirt on the outside of the screen, but i cleaned it and they are still there.
Then I started thinking its dirt projected through the vents on the screen. Sometime I burn some inscence and perhaps the smoke kinda sticks to the inside of the screen.
What do you guys think?

Interesting given Dell use the same screen that is in the 20" apple cinema display!
I find my 20" dell next to the 24" iMac pretty good......not as good as the iMac but still pretty dam good.

Only thing I somewhat regret is not doing the video card upgrade. I just got the base model 24" iMac

Looking at my huge 20" iMac CD and thinking of 24" iMac C2D wow!
Really should be known as uberMac from now on!
An elegent 24" all-in-one (ie holistic computer) - only Apple could do that well!

Although I'm not much of a gamer, I tried the 10day free trial of world of warcraft. On the iMacs native resolution the fps was pretty low, it did better at 1680x1050 (not sure if thats right) but everything was streched out and the txt was a bit blurry... But standing still in WoW at 1900x1200 was quite amazing on the 24"

This has been a very interesting thread for me to read. I've been pulling my hair out 😕 over the past 2 months as I go back and forth between 24" iMac and a 2.66 Mac Pro with 23" CD. As of late I have been squarely on side with spending the extra money to get the Mac Pro -- mostly for the longevity and upgradeability that it will provide. I had all but written off the 24" iMac.
Maybe you guys can answer me this -- Is there a lot of difference between a 23" cinema display and the built in display in the 24" iMac? I have been told that they are night and day. I just took a second to compare the technical specs on the two displays and they appear identical -- resolution, contrast ratio, brightness...all the same. Does apple make the display in the iMac.
The other big difference that someone brought up for me was 32 bit vs. 64 bit. The architecture in the Mac Pro is truely 64 bit vs. 32 bit in the iMac. I'm talking out of my a$$ a bit here as I'm not the most technically adept geek on the block...but 64 is clearly a bigger number than 32 😉 . Will operating systems and software of the near future embrace 64 bit making the iMac seem dated before it's time.
These last two paragraphs capsulize the main reasons why I was leaning toward the Mac Pro. If anyone can debunk my preconceptions I'm happy to consider any and all opinions.

The main advantage of 64 bits is still marketing.
The main advantage of a Mac Pro is upgradeability. When my wife's 24" iMac's monitor goes, she's up the creek. She bought 2 G and could have bought 3 G of RAM, she's limited in what video cards she can have, a second hard drive would be external... And she can't use her iMac as a monitor for her laptop. We did need a powered USB extention, as the two on her keyboard don't have power for much more than a mouse, and there aren't many on the back (hard to reach anyway). One of those iPod ones work great - but I gave her my old one when I bought myself one of those. But hers is full up already - more ports are better - but the iMac design is more limited than the Mac Pro design.
But it is a beautiful machine sitting on her desk, with no CPU in sight.

Just a quick question for you 24"ers. How do you find it for gaming? Looking to buy a desktop in the summer and am currently weighing up the Mac Pro and iMac 24" (w/ 7600GT)

The processor is but is the rest of the architecture 64 bit? Here are the technical specs from the Mac Pro.

128-bit SSE3 vector engine
64-bit data paths and registers

The iMac doesn't have any mention of 64 bit. Again...might be out in left field here.

I disagree, it depends totally on your usage. My mbp has two gigs of ram and i use nearly all of it, however when i bought my parents a macbook for christmas, i didn't bother to upgrade the ram from 1 gig to 2, and they have almost no page outs, similar applies with my girlfriends mbp CD, also with 1 gig of ram, and also with virtually no page outs!🙂

FYI, the 24" iMac has a max brightness of 400 cd/m2, the 22" ACD had a max brightness of 180 cd/m2, and the macbook has a max brightness of 300 cd/m2.
