I was planning to gift my iPod Touch 5th gen to be used as a Music player, but I had forgotten how badly Apple screwed up the Music app in iOS 9. That was the one where albums appeared only in reverse alphabetical order, there was no collapsed album list view, i.e. the songs appeared as a list below each album in the list, so you had to scroll through all the songs to scroll through albums, etc. Any suggestions how to salvage this thing? Because I'd feel bad inflicting it on somebody.

If you turn this itouch wider, horizontally the albums appear side by side and scrollable when in itunes.
this is in the last update for the itouch4 that should work for the itouch5

I'm talking about the Music app, and it doesn't rotate.

One correction to my OP: There appears to be a threshold for displaying the album list with all the songs showing. I have one artist with only two albums, and it appears expanded. However, artists with four or more albums appear with the albums collapsed. I don't have any loaded right now with three albums. Anyway, this is not as bad as I thought, and I'll feel less guilty gifting it now. lol

ETA: Three albums also shows expanded, so four is indeed the threshold for the albums to appear collapsed.

I can’t answer your question… only adding that iOS music apps have progressively become worse over the past decade.

The ones from the last few years are MUCH better than the iOS 9 monstrosity. Apple really screwed that one up.
