Thanks for the info. I'm only installing the OS, no Windows apps except of course an anti-virus one.

does any one experience slowness in the graphics on the mac side after installing boot camp? Or any performance drag?

i'm going to go out on a limb here and attempt to answer your question... i haven't even got a MacBook or MBP, but...

I'd say that installing/using Bootcamp to install Windows would do nothing at all to affect the OS X side of your Mac. Bootcamp is just an app to help you install Windows. When Win is installed, it will just sit on your HD until you boot it up. Just like if you had Linux or (in the old days) OS 9 installed on a partition along-side OS X.

hope that answers your question. :)

I have installed it twice. Once my Macbook that had a bad Super Drive, and the one that I have now. Apple was good about the replacement. Anyways,
It installed fine for me. I didn't have any problems. The only thing that was annoying was that the Bluetooth didn't install quite as seemlessly as I would have liked. I had to use the "Hardware found Dialoge" to install the drivers. This was not a problem for me because I fix Dell machines in a warranty center, so we see alot of this kind of thing. But i have not had any troubles.

The only problem i have is that he GMA Isn't all too great for games. It didn't run splinter cell all that great for some reason, but that might be because that i don't have the most updated optomised patch, but it ran Civ IV and Age of Mythology that bad. Other than that it runs good.

Anyone have any idea if the MacBook will be able to run Vista? Because of the vid card requirements, I'm guess I would need the MacBook Pro.

I'm sure Vista will run on the MacBooks, but I don't think it'll be Vista-Premium ready.

Drivers installed perfectly for me. The thing to remember is when bootcamp makes a cd, it burns the drivers for that paticular macbook, imac, macmini, macbook pro. Some of those having difficulty were using discs from their other intel macs. This doesnt work.

Also a lot of users struggle to install the windows drivers, because windows is so fecking awkward. The thing to remember when installing them is to ignore the search for new hardware windows that pop open and just pay attention to the ones saying this driver has not been tested do you want to continue, as soon as you say yes, continue the other new hardware wizard windows close. Some people get unstuck by using the new hardware wizard which they should not do.

XP ran perfectly via bootcamp for me on my macbook and from my other thread you can see that Vista also ran via bootcamp.

From first hand experience...

Here's some now VISTA FACTS to update earlier part of this thread..

Yes AERO is supported on a macbook
Yes 224mb of ram is dedicated to the GMA950 with Vista

Vista likes A LOT of memory, especially if you want the GMA950 to use the full amount of ram.

Aero & Glass only work if you choose to install the Lakeport drivers for the GMA950. Proper drivers will be released in due time, it's only a beta at this stage.

To be honest vista looks about the same with basic look as it does with Aero. Aero's supposed 3D interface boils down to very little and glass is a complete superfluous waste. It's expose feature window icon + tab on keyboard is a bit pants too....

So will this new driver for the GMA 950 allot more RAM in OS X as well?

Well I used Bootcamp to install XP Pro and it was effortless like you said.

I don't think I'd install Vista unless there's a perfectly good reason too :D

Im not doubting you, but can you post a link to where I can see that with my own eyes? I'm thinking about buying a Macbook this week and one of my main requirements is that it should be able to handle vista and xp fairly well. I dont need it for gaming purposes - but I would like it to handle all that "**** in Vista" as you said :)

I like you sig - Steven Wright right?

I've already posted screenshots and the solution to make MacBook vista Aero/Glass compatible. :)

Macbook graphics card uses 224mb in Vista. More than enough for all the fanciness of vista.....

Lil off topic here but anybody know how to fix the clock? Everytime i boot up in windows the clock changes and it changes the time in Mac OS as well. Any solutions to this?

Yeah there is a a registry code edit that sorts it out. I think it can be found on onmac.net or somesuch.

Ok thanks alot, i got alot of info oon other stuff that were bothering me. I'll just ask them about the clock

The macbook runs windows "fine" bu there are certain problems..

Theres no right click.
The hardware keys for adjusting screen brightness/volume/numlock do not work without a third party input remapper.
Theres no drivers for the isight, and trying to access the cameras and scanners control panel will give you a lovely BSOD...
To change screen brightness you have to use an icon that sits in the notification area.
After that, well i deleted it because i couldn't get used to the trackpad without 2 finger scrolling :D

I have read in another thread that if you disable the iSight in the Hardware list, this will fix the BSOD when using cameras.

Help!

I just received my MacBook today and tried to install Boot Camp, I didn't realise SP2 was required so instead i tried to install SP1 and now i am stuck on installing of windows and not able to boot back to OSX. I don't have the SP2 CD to continue the installation so does anyone know how i can get back to Mac OS?

I have tried ejected the SP1 cd and inserted the MacBook cd's that came with the Macbook but it doesnt help!

Hold the OPTION button down while your Mac is rebooting. It should let you chose to boot back into OS X.

If your in UK, the option key isnt labeled like it American keyboards.

It's the ALT key :)

Well that's no fun. :D

My way for remembering what that key does (on boot) is that it gives you the "OPTION" of what to boot. Le Sigh :)

i haven't read all the replies, but incase anyone hasnt tried. it's a b1tch to remove. First it told me that my system wasnt up to date, so i couldn't run the bootcamp utility AFTER i already had xp installed and running fine. Then today it just randomly decided to work and now it says that it removed xp and just restart. i did so twice and it won't go away.

I'm getting a macbook for college and bootcamp isn't really a question for me, a lot of things at my uni require XP. I'm also getting a 100gb 7200rpm harddrive (seagate) as well as RAM as soon as possible. The question is this:

would it be easier/would it work if I erased OSX on the stock harddrive and installed XP via bootcamp and then take it out, put it into a case and make it an external harddrive to boot XP on, and then install OSX on the new hd OR get my new hd settled and then install bootcamp on the old hd as an external usb hd?

Download SP2 from Microsoft, then slipstream it with your SP1 (very good instructions in the link below). Worked for me.
