yea but driveless mbp + ssd instead of hdd = MBA.
the difference? MBA has a ****** processor while MBP will hopefully have sandy bridge.
I guess they will discontinue the 13" mba and make MBA only as a 11 inch. 13+ will be the pros.
the thing is, if all that happens (no optical drive, ssd storage), what about the plastic (polycarbonate) macbook? will it stay the same at the same price while other models are moving forward? or will they make that thinner too? or will they totally remove it ?

i dont think the 13 mba will be discontinued. could it be renamed macbook pro?

I would quite like it if they offered the pro with flash storage and a standard HDD.

I could live with 64GB Flash Storage for the OS, programs and the files currently being worked on and then a standard HDD for file storage.

Without an optical drive this should easily be achievable and would provide a very quick machine with Sandy bridge processors.

Also am i not right in thinking the flash chips in the Air have some advantage over removable SSD's??

maybe, then it would be a merge of MBA/MBP, but i hope they dont keep that crappy processor...
Btw anyone knows why the 13" mba has that cpu? its not because of the size i guess, the size is smaller thanks to the removal of the optical drive, so why use a low-freq cpu? i guess to make more money, but what about the next gen MBP? if they become small like the MBA, noone will buy the 13 mba... the 11 sure, because of the difference of screen size, but :
13 mba VS 13 mbp: same price, while mba has 1,8ghz cpu? doesnt make sense.

re 13 mba vs mbp, mba has higher screen res, instant on, long stand by, and thin. now i think its a close call between the 13s
