I saw 2 today which were like huge bees. They were pretty much like bees on steroids. I saw one chase a bee off by the flowers. I watched from a distance before seeing it shoot my way and I pretty much saw 2 eyes looking at me before it flew off. I literally was like WTF..?
Anyone had any encounters with them?

I went to turn on my sprinkler system for the first time this season. I opened up the box to close the valve in there so I could turn on the main and there was a huge hornet in there, just like you describe. Looked like a bee but just massive. I reached in to quickly turn the valve and it stopped moving but had it's eyes on me the whole time.

Our city has quietly been doing checks in public trees to look for possible nests to destroy them for several weeks now.

I saw them in Culver City by my cousin's place.

When they come your way and look at you, you literally see 2 huge eyes looking at you 😳 then you are like "Oh shi*..." 😯😨🤪

And that is no joke. This thing was so big that I could easily see those eyes. The colors were very bright and it almost looked too bright for an insect. And those wings. Huge. I would say it was nearly 2" from end to end.

I've been seeing these articles floating around the last few days, and it makes me glad I live on an Island where the snow is sometimes down until early June.

Wasp are one of the few thing on this planet I fear, after being attacked by a swarm as a child, so these things would be the end of me.

I heard on news that these hornets were first "imported" to Washington, same place we originally were told the first case of COVID-19 came in to the U.S. (now they know of earlier cases in California) It's kind of weird that since my son moved to Washington, I hear so many things about that state or about Seattle.
