I need a 1 or 2 metre lightning extension cable, to go from the lightening adaptor that's connected to my car integration system in the glove box. Preferably in black.

Anyone seen any around yet?

No, but I keep looking.

For me I'm going from a 30-pin connector in my car to lightning. I bought the 8" adapter from Apple. I wonder if I can slice the cable open and match the cables with my own wires and then solder it back together, turn the small cable into a longer one.

Why dont you just buy a USB extension?

Well, as your car should have a 30-pin dock connection because there are no Lightning-equipped cars yet, just extend that because the cables are widely available:

Because I want the cable to come FROM the adaptor, not TO the adaptor.

The adaptor is clunky and does not fit well with cases. It also looks goofy, especially in white, so I want it hidden away for cleaner/minimalistic installation in my car.

You should've gotten the adapter with the 8" cord if you want to use it with a case. :) It's less clunky, too.
And again, if you're hiding it anyways, use a 30-pin extension cord. Then hide the 30-pin side of the adapter and just leave the 8" cord and the plug visible.

There are still issues with some cases, and I still don't want the bright white adaptor hanging around. But yes, I agree its a better option than the other adaptor, but I would much prefer a black extension cable.

A lot of cars, like my Honda, have a usb port not a 30 pin port.

I'm in the exact same situation here. Grom Audio box in my glove box, 8 pin din to 30 pin out of the dash, 30 pin to lightning adaptor 8" pigtail. Would love to have a lightning female to lightning male so I could tuck the adaptor and the rest of that mess away. Don't think I'll be seeing an affordable solution from Grom now that they have to worry about the DAC and I'm starting to think we might be waiting awhile for any extension like this. I'm half tempted to pick up a black Griffin lightning cable that was announced today and splice it onto my adaptor. Not a good feeling to have to chop up $60 worth of cables but this adaptor hanging out of my dash on a 30 pin is just aggravating. If I decide to get DIY on it I'll be sure to post results. Maybe another couple weeks to see what comes out before Christmas.

I'm searching for a lightning extension cable as well. (prefer black)

I'm preparing to buy a new car double din stereo that has HDMI input. (Clarion NX603)

The Apple HDMI Lightning adapter has a short lightning pigtail.

I'd like to plug that male pigtail into the female side of a lightning extension cable.
(if one exists yet)

Anyone had any luck

I am using the adaptor cable and a 30 pin extender cable in my car. I am getting some hum with the extension and rather try a lightning extender.

I'm looking for the same -- I'm sure anyone that has purchased one of the new Pioneer head units for their car will be looking as they require either the Apple Digital AV Adapter or Lightning to VGA adapter to work with the iPhone 5, and unless you don't mind a two corded dongle snaked all over your car, you'll need a male to female lightning cable extension to hide it.

Anyone heard if these may be coming?

What a nightmare this lightning connection has turned out to be -- between $40 for two $3 cables just so I can charge my phone at work/car, and now this, it makes me wish I hadn't upgraded my 4s.

I'm looking for the exact same thing...

I also have a new Pioneer (AVH-X8500BHS) and hate that the Lightning Digital AV adapter is so small so I have two cables coming from the receiver into the car.

:(

I am also in search for a female-male lightning cable. The Pionner solution makes a real mess in the cockpit....

Hoping for the 8pins core cable

I make use of the core cable 30pins and it's fantatastic, I allready ordered the 8pins for iphone 5, but it's not yet in stores. I highly recommend the core cable.

You are the god damn man.. Thank you! I'll also try it out with my grom audio setup.

Thanks, I ordered one of these as well. Would be great if the head of the cable was thin enough to thread through a gooseneck, but beggars can't be choosers... :)

That's actually the exact same cabe being sold on eBay. I have been using the cable for a couple weeks now and it works perfectly so far. The connectors are large as you can see from the photos but it beats the apple adaptor hanging out of the dash.

Thanks, good to have confirmation it works with the adaptor. It's a shame the connectors are so massive, but still much better than having the adaptor handing around I like you say.
