That'd be exactly what I was looking for if it wasn't for the bulky male end. It just won't fit with my case on.

Hopefully someone will come along and make one that is smaller in the near future.

I bought a 10ft cable from www.beyondtherack.com. It looks just like the apple version and I only paid $9.99.

Why would you pay more than $2 for anything other than a USB extension? Makes no sense.

To the last post.. We are talking about an extention cable to specifically extend AFTER a 30pin to lighning adaptor.

Just a warning for anyone looking at the black cable found on ebay and in the link earlier. After using this cable for about a month it has begun to fall apart. Just yesterday I noticed that the connector itself has loosend and is wiggling a bit in the black oversized connector end. I'm also noticing some connection issues but unsure if it is an issue between the lightning connector and the phone or a loose connection within the end of the cable. I'm likely going to cut off the connector end housing (big black thing) and rebuild the end with some sugru.

I'd recommend buying the white connector linked before. If you really need black you could plastidip it or buy the eBay variant and hope its doesn't fail or just fix it when it does.

From the following ebay seller. Female lightning on one end + Male Lightning on the other.
@40" end to end.

It worked when extending my USB to Lightning cable - going to try it now on my Pioneer SPH-DA100 headunit passing video and audio. *Update - works fine, no issues.

I just plugged in this cable after ordering it weeks ago. The thing is too small, jiggling it is enough to lose the connection. Very disappointed for as much as they charged for it.

I just bought 8500

Did you ever solve this problem? I found a Lightning extension cable but it wouldn't let the stereo recognize the iphone5. any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is what I plan to order

That one, and the majority of other eBay ones say
"Only supports charging and data sync"
That means it might not support HDMI adapters for Audio/Video out.

One example is people with the Pioneer AppRadio 3. You have to use the Apple Lightening to HDMI Adapter. That means you're forced to extend the Lightening end if you want to hide the bulky adapter in your car.

See this:

More AppRadio info here:

(they make a great jailbreak Cydia "AppRadio Extension" package for outstanding iPhone 5 UI integration)

Bummer it seems to be the only game in town that supports HDMI adapters. It's that bad eh? thomapa1 seemed to like it on page one are you sure? Hmmm Yeah the photo does make the connector look a bit short and housing is fat, strange. I prefer black too!

So are there any other extensions out there confirmed working with HDMI adapters? I was about to get the one orangesauce talked about until he pointed out the lightening connector is short, comes out easily.

Confirmed working by VBLUE42:

The seller needs to clarify his description of:
"Support Data Sync and charging only! Video & Audio are not supported!"
I think he is obviously confusing 30 pin Analog audio/video out. (lightening is pure digital only no matter how you slice it)

Looks good, slimmer.

I'm going to get the black one.

If they are not Apple certified, when you upgrade to iOS7, you well get a popup warning message. They will probably still charge, but it is annoying.

The micro USB to lighting adapter seems to solve this problem, and long micro USB cables are probably cheaper and easier to find.

Just my 2 cents.

I assumed iOS6 already had this problem, and the knock off cable makers already figured out a way around it. (since I haven't see that message yet on iOS6) Are you saying iOS7 will start enforcing the chip detection thing? I'll have to google around and see what you're talking about. (interesting)
Well I don't plan on upgrading to iOS7 any time soon at least. A jailbreak iOS 6 does way more than what iOS7 offers.
-all addresses, and siri navigation commands goto Google maps app.
-free 4G WiFi tethering
-complete AppRadio iOS intergration
- many many more things that all add up

How would a micro USB adapter work with a bulky HDMI adapter people are trying to hide in the car though? (using two adapters?)

My bad. Didn't read the OP carefully enough. I had no idea there was a car with a built in lighting adapter.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming...

I can confirm that these extensions do not work with IOS7 or the latest version of IOS6...this is so stupid. They need to remove this accessory compatibility bs or just make the AV cable longer!!!!

No they don't need to make any longer cable. Get a usb extension cable! $2 and you are done.

A lot of cars, like my Honda, have a usb port not a 30 pin port.

I got a 6' Lightening cable by Moshi to charge my iPhone 5 in my Toyota. I was told by the dealer that the iPhone 5 'will not work with the radio in your vehicle. It will charge it though'. BONUS: It plays absolutely fine with the Moshi cable. It's available in black or white and works great. The connectors are metal too, and the cable seems sturdier than the stock Apple cable. I haven't been back to the dealer yet. Last time I had an iPod issue with a different car, it took an act of God (FSM?) to get the idea across that their iPod kit didn't work with the model of radio/car that I had.

But if your car only has a Lightning jack, there aren't many options. Official ones at least... At least until Apple puts Lightning jacks on their computers. But, if you have a lightning jack, it can't be Apple spec (unless I misunderstood you) so why worry about out of spec cables.

You clearly do not understand the cable that is needed. We are using the lightning - VGA adapter, which only has a 3" cable to plug the phone in. The extension is to alleviate huge box that is attached.

Nice. Thanks for the newegg link. Finally a trusted source but no reviews. Looks like they have a few options but of the same or very similar cable. I would imagine that when you say it doesn't work with VGA you are specifically talking about video and likely just missing the auth chip. If all 8 pins are wired up, this should work fine for the OP. Audio extension from the apple DAC.

You are really struggling with the concept of this thread aren't you :)

I do use a USB extension cable to extend the reach of my lightning next to my bed and at work, but as already well explained by myself and others - a USB extension will not work in the situation I described.

Yes, this cable actually does nothing, including charging when connected to the VGA adapter. The only thing it does is pop up the message for accessory compatibility.

Has anyone actually bought this one: http://imod.co/shop/lightning-extension-cable-for-ios-7/

So far I've been burned twice. Bought two on eBay. A white one that only does charging and not data transfer (I didn't read the small fine print) and I also bought the black bulky one, which someone mentioned earlier, worked for a few weeks and then it fell apart. It was a POS cable to begin with and was too bulky to use with my Caze iPhone 5S bumper. I'm going to take the risk and buy this THIRD lightning extension cable and hope it works. If this doesn't work, my next option is to buy the longer factory/OEM Apple cable and have the short pig tail AV adaptor plugged in straight to my phone. I have been searching for months because I have an AVIC-Z150BH nav screen and want to actually use it for once.

Anyone seen any Lightning extension cables yet?

Nvm. Misread the OP post.
