Just curious to see if anyone actually settled for the 16GB models. With as much space photos take in addition to 4K video and some apps, I would be highly surprised if anyone took the plunge.

I did. I keep all my photos and videos on google photos. I have approx. 6 GB free, so plenty of room to take pictures and videos. They auto upload to google photo app, then I delete them on the iPhone. But I also use an iPad for games and watching videos etc. I think it comes down to how much you want to have to manage the content on your phone.

Edit: also I don't record in 4K. If I did I would probably need more storage for sure.

I've previously always purchased the 16gb since I never used all of it.

Now with Live Photos, a pretty damn good rear and front camera, it's a no brainer to move up to the 64gb in my case.

I had a 16GB i4, a 32GB i5, 64GB 6+ and I've got a 64GB 6S+. If 32GB becomes the base model next year I may drop down to that.

I didn't buy a 6S+ (I'm a happy 6+ owner waiting for 7 to upgrade) but I came in here to say that 16GB models are primarily for the "baseline" users that don't take 100s of photos/videos a month... like my mom. People like Aceroller that are very frugal with their space and have other solutions are probably the exception rather than the norm.

How does Google Photo handle Live Photos and 4K video?

Totally agree with this. For most users I would not recommend the 16GB. I can't tell you how many friends and family members I have had to help free up space on their iPhones. But I would say that the blanket statement that some people make about a 16GB version being unusable is not always correct. Just depends how you are going to use it. Works for me.

I hardly ever shoot any video and if I did, it wouldn't matter to me what the quality was so long as it wasn't a pixelated mess. 4K sounds way OTT for a phone but if that floats your boat then you're going to need lots of storage space. I do store a lot of photos and films though, so 16GB is nowhere near enough for me. If I used my phone for music alone I would need the 128 model (and then some).

I have a 16GB 6S that I will return on Tuesday for a 64GB. Although I could make it with 16GB by backing up my photos to one drive which I always do, I just want to have the peace of mind cause I plan on keeping this phone for awhile. 16gig should be gone forever though.

Will be picking up a 128gb model. Have a 64gb 6 at the moment (had 64gb 4s then 5 before that) and with the 6's camera, iCloud photo library and a few other things I now find myself hitting the capacity occasionally.

Also I want to be able to turn off the optimize photos for device setting in the photos app!

And that is exactly why Apple doesn't want to offer a 32GB base model. :)

I think it's interesting what they did with the iPad Pro though, the 32 to 128 with a bigger $$ jump between the two.

My previous iPhones have all been 16GB i never really had an issue with space until the iPhone 6 the "low space" warning was popping up almost every week. I kept having to delete apps/games or pics to make room. I told myself I'm never getting a 16gb iphone again so I got the 64 this time and very happy I did. But I would get a 32GB if Apple made one. I dont really need 64GB i just need more than 16.

I've always had the 16s, but decided to go with 64 this round. I am so glad I did. I don't want to worry about space when taking pictures, and for once I can have some music on my phone as well!

Might as well say the starting price of iPhone is $749/$849. I'm sure Apple enjoys the profit margins from all those (a lot of people) who want over 16gb. I'm no where close to a power user but with 30 or so apps, maybe 10 months worth of pics and some videos, I ran out of room. I think the next model will start at 32. For me, 64 is way too much but anything over say 24gb would be fine. And to think...not that long ago Apple still offered a 8gb 4s!!

Does Google Photos compress the pictures or videos at all? What about offline viewing?

You can upload up to 16mp pictures and 1080P videos. All the photos load very quickly and you can search by a persons face or any keyword, and the app is really good at finding pictures. However, I don't believe there is any offline viewing. Try it out, it's free unlimited storage. :)
