Best Buy is discounting $500 off of 2016 Macbook M5 processor with 512GB storage. I'm tempting to return my 10.5 iPad Pro for it. Anyone cross shopped both and ended up with Macbook?

I use both. My 12 MacBook is plugged into a USB-C monitor at home and is my primary machine for data analysis and typing up research reports. I use the 10.5 iPad Pro to take notes and annotate PDF articles. They both have different uses. If I had to choose to have only one, I would go with the MacBook.

I've used the 2015 MacBook and the 9.7" iPad Pro side by side for a year now. I basically agree with @xqtr - the iPad is an awesome reader/note taker/paper notebook replacement, but if I really only had one computer, it'd probably have to be the MacBook. Too many computer-like things still feel forced on the iPad - as much as I love them as companion devices.

I am going to pitch in here. I've been using the iPad pro as my main portable machine, adn I have a windows gaming machine both at work and at home. I use the iPad while out and about. And I love it. Ive not tried heavy production on the iPad pro yet, like video editing and heavy lightroom, but I really love the portability, the battery life and speed of the iPad pro.

I am at least thinking of going for a 256 ipad pro 10.5 as my main portable device.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a gaming pc at home that can handle anything I throw at it and I'm wanting to get something portable. I just can't justify buying a laptop since I'm not in school anymore and my work doesn't involve me to use a laptop.

I think an ipad 2017 would be the best purchase for me, unless I found a deal on the pro; however, I feel as if it might be overkill since I use my iPhone 6s for my portable needs. Plus on top of that I may be upgrading to newest model this fall.

How do you use both use your iPad and iPhone to justify having both?
