Definitely not sick of Aqua. Especially with UNO! Bye bye metal :D

What I am sick of is the way Microsoft insists on messing with their UI within their applications. A good example is Office 2007 which I have to use for work. Firstly, the new "Ribbon UI" (which I actually really like) only exists in part of the suite and even within their products it's inconsistent. Outlook 2007 is a great example, the main application window doesn't have it, but the new mail message window does. What's with that!? Second, it doesn't inherit any system theme. Office has it's own theme and that's that. Ugly. Third, some apps haven't been updated at all, like Visio and Project. They not only have ignored the Ribbon UI, but they don't even have the same colour options (bright blue toolbars!?).

So no, not sick of Aqua. It looks clean, it's functional, it's moved in the right direction since 10.0 and doesn't rely on "bling" to get people in. I also like the fact that I don't need to waste 60MB+ of VRAM just to run it (ie Aero/Glass).

Can you right click on a file in OS X and "Send to Email Recipient"? NO. You cannot in OS X.
Well, with Automator 'save-as-plugin's I can send emails with a right click, as in the picture below. This will send the file to a pre-determined email address I've labelled 'VG'. I don't need to type anything.

Ha! WRONG! Windows XP/Vista is way more "integrated". Can you right click on a file in OS X and "Send to Email Recipient"? NO. You cannot in OS X. But you can in Windows, and that is called INTEGRATION. Apple has got to catch up! In Leopard! Not in the next cat 2+ years from now

Maybe not but you can drag and drop the file onto the mail icon in the dock and have an email ready to go. Drag and drop is something that I find extremely limited in Windows whenever I use it, it barely seems to exist at all once you have been using OS X, meaning that there are so many long winded shenanigans just to save a file to different location - did this get worse with XP?

Drag and Drop as a concept is fundamentally more user friendly than right clicking a file and choosing send to. Why? Because it is consistent. Drop text onto the Mail icon and it opens a new message. Drop a file and the same.

Anyway, this is to do with the GUI, and contextual menu send options are not really a part of that discussion.

I love all the "I'm not sick of Aqua, I use UNO" messages. So the UI is so good and you're so happy with it you felt you had to alter it? :D

Aqua is very nice, much nicer than XP's theme. However compared to Vista's Aero it looks slightly toy-like and could do with a more refined, unified look for Leopard. All indications are that Apple will introduce a new UI with Leopard anyway, exciting times!

I love the vibrant blue and brushed metal. The gumdrops look a bit childish, but I'm new to mac (just a year and 1/2) so it's still new to me compared to years languishing with Fischer-Price and '95 grey.

I like the shine on the buttons. The dock is fantastic, too.

Exactly. Well put.

You stop appreciating what you already have and start falling for all the hype, and the demand for newness for its own sake. The only reason Mac users start doing this is because they have so much time freed up in comparison to PC users, who are busy trying to install drivers and figure out why their machine is crashing.

Everyone says that they are really opposed to the iTunes 7 look, and at first I hated it also. But the other day I went over to my (un-tech-savvy) friend's house and took a look at iTunes 6, which was still on his computer, and I much prefer iTunes 7, blue icon and all.

I know that I wouldn't like an OS completely like this at first, but I would get used to it pretty quickly, I think.

Aqua, though, has always struck a nice chord in my mind, despite its inconsistencies. The first time I saw it, I thought 'that is beautiful'. I look at it now after coming home from my Windows infested school, and still have that same feeling.

It would be nice, I think, to have everything remain aqua, have the windows 'uno'd, and have a slider in system preferences that allowed you to slide the grey value of the windows system wide, all the way from black to white and everything in between.

Heh, iTunes had blue icon in version 2 :D

No, I'm not sick of Aqua. I love it. Always when I come back to my iMac after I have to use some windows, I enjoy it.

I dont understand those who say that Aqua is childish, not ment for productivity. I feel so productive with it! Especially with all those really nice features like Expose! Amazing!

Each time I see/use non-Apple computer or player I always wonder, how Apple manages to make such amazing products, so intuitive, easy to use and yet powerfull! Sure, Apple is not perfect, but its far ahead of what is available on the market today.

I also happen to like aqua, i hope they don't replace it with that "black Gloss" look that everyone is on about, that would be to windosy for me, i also dislike the itunes 7 Look it's boring, and unexciting, i like a bit of colour, and i miss the little blue 'test tubes' as my grandfather calls them, from itunes 7, so i downloaded that thing that makes itunes 7 aqua again

Eh, don't fix what ain't broke. It still looks cleaner and more integrated than any of Microsoft's offerings. I enjoy the new elements that have been introduced in various apps and refinements, and I still think Aqua looks better than, say, Vista's Aero or something.

And if you think it hasn't changed, go back and look at 10.0 vs. 10.4. They've toned down a lot of the interface to be more smooth and subtle.

The new dark windows for Finder Quick Look in Leopard are kinda cool though. I wouldn't want them across the whole OS, but they're neat for what they are.

That will get us real far. "Don't fix what ain't broke" Seriously why does every single mac user on Macrumors use that as the sole defense to anything/one that says something bad about Macs? (No offense to the poster I am using as an example) I really get this all the time when I post and propose change from Apple's ways... I suppose I just need to do some jello shots of Apple's cool aid to truly understand "Don't fix what ain't broke"

not yet, unless you guys don't think mac's user population is expanding. not everybody owns a mac for 5 years.

I've had a Mac for since November + UNO and I'm bored. Shapeshifter was nice but I shouldn't have to pay. Candybar was nice, but again I shouldn't have to pay. I guess I'm used to XP and being able to customize with out having to pay. Kinda a joke (I dont want to hear about paying for people's hard work blah blah blah) OS X should have these built right in as everyone has said. I would have paid for had it actually worked... I just kept running into programs that would freak out like FCP when using some nice theme.

OS X is nice and everything but I guess I'm just used to XP and not being limited. Maybe I'm just a Newbie yet still so perhaps you don't need a lot of programs to change the OS X feel and look.

I got tired of it and paid for shape shifter. Cheaper than a new Mac OS and lots of themes to choose from!:)

Oh that is good! :) I've been considering shape shifter myself. Anything bad about it?

I can't say that I'm sick of Aqua at all, but it would be nice if Apple offered themes themselves. I have heard that they had planned to include themes with each major release of OS X, but pulled it at the last minute, just before releasing the Gold master. Anyone know anything about this?

So yes, I'll go along with folks who want a change.

It stopped my PPC apps working, this was using the pre-release beta though, dunno if they fixed it. Got tired of the themes and switched back to aqua.

tried UNO but it is too boring for me. I quite like aqua and have always comeback to it. Just needs refining and becoming more consistent.

Candybar was nice, but again I shouldn't have to pay.

You can easily change icons without using Canbybar, so you do not have to pay.

I don't think UNO really alters the UI, it just makes everything look more unified. So your applications are *more* Aqua like.

And whilst the look of Aero/Glass in Vista may appeal to some, the VRAM requirements will annoy businesses and irk power users after a while too.

Well his point was to say it isn't fair to defend Aqua by bringing UNO up because the interface is not that, Uno makes the interface look a lot better, I really like it, that, a few icon changes and a new desktop background and OSX should feel like new...

Is that that "Get info" thing and change it and what not

Not sick of it, but I wouldn't mind a UI update in Leopard.
And what's with all the "anti-productivity" comments? It's not like the UI is so eye-catching that it distracts me from work.

At first I liked the look of Windows Vista in a few screenshots I saw with only one window open. Then I saw a screenshot with like 4 windows open and stacked up... boy did that make a difference. With all the blurry title bars and stuff it looked like one big ball of mess. It was actually kinda hard to tell which window was which and it seemed very distracting to me. I really hope Apple doesn't try to do something like this.

Also, I'm not THAT sick of Aqua but, it reminds me of the original iMac and the original non-beige Apple Hardware. Apple, we're done with the stripes already, get rid of 'em! The OS overall still feels a bit out of date especially since the scroll bars, title bar widgets and progress bars haven't even been TOUCHED since Mac OS X 10.0 (they feel really out of place).... however, there is a solution to that and it's called Aqua Extreme by Max Rudberg ;)

I am one of those people who every time complains about the new GUI in the newest Mac OS and then later after using it for a few months, gets used to it and then starts to like it. I hated Tiger at first with the glossy menu bar and unified windows and also when Panther introduced the metal Finder... but, now I find it all quite useful. I love the 1 window browsing in the Finder now and the glossy menu bar in Tiger is actually a good thing because it looks more like a button or something you click... because stripes (everywhere else) means that you can't click it.

I feel the same, though the gum drop buttons have grown on me. I love the Tiger Aqua UI. It's simple it's clean not distracting and not huge like XP and Aqua never feels old to me even though it has many variations accross its design.

Yeah, I can't really complain about Aqua as work keeps me so busy. I've used many of the best ShapeShifter themes from Max/DSKY and to name a few but sadly I always end up back with Aqua because its so complete and key feature, useable.

I did however really not like iTunes7 when it launched then it eventually grew on me but sadly after a while I found it was so bland and boring after running the ShapeShifter theme iMetal don't get me wrong, very nice useable theme but its not as much as a joy working with Aqua!

Vista's UI is awful from the get go, if anything to complain about that looks childish is the Min/Max/Close glyphs. The colours look so washed out, infact so washed out the colours they used throughout the UI reminds me when you draw with crayons its got that tacky look if you know what I mean with crayons?
The only thing that shines for Vista in its UI I felt was the taskbar, that was the only slick part. The rest is just awful!
