Nope, I'm perceptive enough to be able to discriminate 24K and 18K gold plated watches. Gold paint is most certainly not going to fool me.
I'm with you here. It's not even that hard, actually. Look at that Ollio (sp?) smartwatch site to see how the 24-kt looks compared to an Apple Watch. Then there's the whole "spraypaint" aspect...

I don't see Apple releasing Gold color Sports models. That would be a big slap in the face to anyone who paid $10k for the real deal. Unless the "gold" Sports is a really matte color and of a different enough shade that it has little chance of being mistaken for the real one. Shiny proper gold will remain a premium benefit.

How so? One's actual gold; the other would still be anodized aluminum, right? I would hope people aren't so childish/superficial.

Of course it'd be anodized gold colored just like on the Gold iPhone. Nobody expects Apple to magically offer a $349 model that looks just like the Edition.

So if you paid $10,000 for an Apple watch, how would you feel if some bozo who paid $349 for his got the same benefit/looks/compliments/envy/etc.?

The whole reason you pay $10,000 for a watch is to show off how wealthy you are. If you aren't superficial, you'd not pay 20x the price for an item because of its color. So yes, its safe to say you are mega superficial and willing to put your money where your mouth is if you're buying the Edition.

And if there is no looks difference (except perhaps on close inspection) over the model that costs $349, you'd be pretty mad I am sure because then it wouldn't be obvious that you're rich to people who see your watch, which is the whole reason you bought it to begin with.

If it looks the same/very similar to a casual observer from 6 feet away then it will cause rage for those who paid 5 figures for theirs.

Come on, you know what Gold iPhone looks like, right? It looks nothing like the Edition and nobody is going to mistake one for the other.

Wow... we are very different people. That's all I can say.

Mercy.

Absolutely I could seriously care less about that even if it's to have an almost perfect looking fake gold Apple watch.

Haha thanks, I seriously don't troll when it comes to apple. In one way or another I've voided all my apple products simply for aesthetic reasons.

How could it look "perfect"? It is paint and soon to be chipped paint. It is that important to you to have a gold watch? That tells much!

Do you have an Edition? I personally have an SS and wouldn't pay for Edition unless I was at least 8 figure rich.

But I'm thinking that someone who can afford it wouldn't want to be mistaken for the low end user. Just like someone who buys a fancy Swiss watch wouldn't like it if people came up to him and asked him if he paid a few hundred bucks for it.

From my experience people who pay 4 or even 5 figures for a watch want you to know it. Lol.

I could also imagine someone who drives a Porsche getting peeved if They came out with a low level version that looked the same and people assumed his $250,000 Porsche was a $10,000 Model everywhere he went.

But that's not going to happen anyway. Polished gold case looks nothing like matte anodized gold-colored case. If anything, gold-plated Watches (which anyone can get for a few hundreds more) represent a bigger threat to people who care about those things.

Is it just the Edition itself, or are you saying you'd need 10's of millions of dollars to make a $10k purchase?

I have the Space Black SS... no Edition here. That's mostly because I don't wear gold; Watch was a gift, anyway. I do own a couple of Rolexes, but I have to be honest - I don't give other people's thoughts much consideration. One was a graduation gift, and it looks too big on my wrist. The other one I wear daily in uniform.

Your examples are... interesting. Luxury watch companies have products that span wide price gamuts. Clothing designers, automobile companies... pretty much anything you can think of. The behavior you're describing - while I'm sure exists - is likely nowhere near as rampant or definite, especially among successful people. That sounds more like the actions of kids, or people who aren't used to having nice things. If you're driving a $250K Porshe, and you're worried about what another person is driving, you have failed at this life thing.
