Really doing some research before I bite the Apple. I know I can return the Mac mini within 14 days but the hassle is not easy…

Any experiences?

Still no issues with my Dell display or BT peripherals: Apple mouse, Logitech K380, Soundlink, MX3s, DS4.

I have owned an M1 Mac Mini for a while now having previously owned a 2014 for a long while. Had the Bluetooth issue with my Apple Magic Keyboard (with numeric keypad) and Logitech MX Master 2S. I have always placed my Mini on a surface that won’t scratch the base plate (hate that) and I have experienced frequent and persistent Bluetooth issues, even on Monteray.

I have just had a new desk yesterday, and I decided to buy some clear rubber bumpers to raise up the Mini rather than putting it on a protective mat, and the Bluetooth issues have stopped immediately. I’m not saying this is the solution, (can’t see how it would be) but i was wondering if anybody else had tried this and had similar experience? My desk has gone from wood to a glass surface so maybe this is also helping? Also the desk has a slightly raised monitor shelf so the Mini is now a few inches higher than my Bluetooth peripherals.

That's curious. I have generally been OK with Bluetooth issues on my i7 mini but recently had some difficulties with the magic keyboard. The dongle for the Tecknet mouse had been moved to a hub on the same level as the mini shortly before this started.

After changing some of the cables around the problem went away, however that included putting the dongle back into the original hub that sits a few inches lower than the mini on a wooden side table.

Setup a base m1 mini yesterday and waking from sleep has been horrible, if the sleep time is longer than 10 minutes. Have had to power cycle to get the USB ports to accept a wired keyboard.

I don't like my M1 mini as much as I hoped to. No BT issues - but it doesn't play nice with my monitors. I have two of the same model: Asus MX259HS 25” Monitor 1080P IPS. It's not a fancy one as these things go but fine for my needs.

I've used the mini with one monitor attached via HDMI - and occasionally the monitor goes "poof!" to a snowy blank. BTW that's happened with both monitors so I suppose it's something in the connection, and I've changed out the HDMI cable as well without resolving the problem. The monitor will usually come back to life without restarting but I've resorted to that too.

At times I've had both monitors available to use with the mini (I do occasional project work for which I'm issued a company laptop/docking station, to which I connect one of my monitors). For the second monitor, I've used a Thunderbolt-to-HDMI adapter. It works, but gets hot. To the point that I have a fan aimed at the back of the mini to keep things cooled down a bit.

I have ordered the new 14" MBP with the M1 Pro chip; Apple's trade-in offer for the mini took some of the sting out of that price for me. I hope the MBP's additional CPU and GPU cores will handle my monitors, and Photoshop, better than the mini does.
