Got a alu series 0, owned it around 2.5 years.
Warn it almost every day, but since OS4 it’s become slow and battery is now shocking.
The watch looks as good as new and watches take a pounding with me.

But like many have a new series 3 on order with EE, hope they get it soon.

I just switched over today. The new watch is much smoother and tapping on the Dexcom complication to get the trend graph and establish the initial connection after watch setup was nearly instant. A few things still make me wait a bit but I haven't actually used the watch much yet.

Basic things like scrolling in the Siri face and changing faces are much smoother, though, so I think it'll be much better than the series 0.

It is definitely noticeably faster... much less delay. Especially with Siri. This version (S3) feels like what I wanted from the beginning.

Thanks for the info. I’m thinking that if I got the stainless steel I would keep it until it dies (only way for me to justify spending $600)

I honestly cannot imagine the damage I would have done to the glass they have on the aluminum versions. I buy stuff to use it so I don't hold back.

Would like to hear more from someone that had the S0. In debating since mine works fine now.

I’m still on S0 SS, strongly considering a Sport S3 though. Main concern is not having the sapphire glass. Mine is still fully functional, and still decently responsive, although if I played around with an S 3 I probably couldn’t stand mine anymore...so I’m trying NOT to find a S3 to play with! :p

Other issue is I have a silver Milanese band (in addition to the black Apple band).i rarely use the Milanese band, but wondering how it’d look paired with a Space Gray aluminum S3. Would get the silver S3, but do not want a white band, and I’m going to give my S0 with its black apple band to my nephew, but keep the Milanese band to use with whatever S3 get. Can not justify a new S3 in SS, I bought my SS from an old boss 60 days after they came out for a steal. Got the watch, the black band, and the Milanese band from him for $350! So I’ve been spoiled by that!

My aluminium sport from about June 2015 is still working well and looking pretty good and the battery lasts all day without a problem. I'm really tempted by the series 3 though.

If I get one I think I may go stainless steel for a change (though I think it looks a little bit too smart for me). I'll keep my old one so I can have one to track sleep while the other charges.

The stainless is significantly heavier over the aluminum, but it gives them more premium appeal to it. But the real winner for the stainless model, is the Sapphire display, which is almost impervious against scratches.

I got stainless for compatibility with bands bought for my series 0 stainless and for the sapphire crystal and back. Two years without a scratch after half a dozen bumps against door frames and I bumped my new watch once already. No visible mark.

Ion glass would probably have broken by now.

The back also does not get scratched from being put on and removed from the charger.

I use a space grey sports s0, and like @AlliFlowers I’ve worn it every day since I got it. It has gotten a few visible dings on the case and a bunch of micro-scratches on the screen, because I pretty much never take it off while I’m awake other than when by the sea.
The screen damage is mainly visible in side-light and doesn’t bother me in actual use, but those scratches are the reason I want to go with a sapphire screen for my next watch.

Apple and the local phone operators made the choice regarding an S3 simple for me: Apple doesn’t sell non-LTE stainless watches, and they don’t make LTE watches that work with the base bands where I live, so they don’t even offer those watches on the market here. I guess I’ll wait for the S4, and to be honest I don’t even feel particularly bad about that.

As it is, I only use the built-in watch functions, and for that the S0 still isn’t really bad (although there is the occasional lag), but if I’m spending money on another one, I want the latest one for the longest possible usable lifetime.

Yep. I wear it for work so I don't want anything from it much. Just notifications and how many pace I did something like that.
I won't update it to watchOS 4 though.

From a first gen SS with link bracelet to a series 3 grey aluminium with the sports band. Happy with my choice so far. Things are really quick and the price is much more affordable.

How does the aluminum version hold up? Is the watch crystal easily scratched?
I have the series 0 aluminum that I got at the initial launch. I have worn it every day since, and no issues at all. I use it backpacking and hiking regularly, and still performs like a champ.

I'm considering upgrading to the series 3 mainly for the GPS and resting heart rate features (which don't work on the original Apple Watch).

I have a S0 Sport Black. Love it but am really tempted by the S3. Main points for me are it being waterproof and also the inclusion of an altimeter. Having a young kid now that's about to start swimming I think its time to upgrade.

I have 2 small scratches on the screen that are not really noticeable. Not sure if I would spend the extra $250 for the stainless. But saying that I will have it for at least 3 years (unless the OS stops me) maybe i should.

I have worn mine every day since I got it until Sept. 22 2017 - and I wore my version 1 today while walking the dogs. It is fine. If I had not wanted lte, I had no real reason to get the version 3. It is looking fine as far as I can tell - I do keep a screen protector on it because I am hell on crystals no matter what the watch - and for me, it is just easier - I am not one of those people who can keep stuff pristine - I just use it - but I know I have cracked several crystals in my time. And I have the sports version of both - can't justify the extra money for stainless steel on a device that I know will only have a relatively short life span. I wore timex weekenders before switching to the apple watch - so I don't really use watches to make any big fashion statement

I just got a free replacement to a Series 1 from the Series 0 due to the battery swelling issue ... and wow, the difference is night and day. The performance is so much better on the Series 1. Apps load twice as fast, scrolling is much smoother. It's actually somewhat pleasant to use, although certainly not perfect. The battery life is also much better, although my old battery was clearly defective so I don't have as good of a reference point.

I really think the Series 0 was, like many first gen products, just not there. Even before I returned it, I would try to load an app and the watch face would go idle before the app loaded. Just terrible.

got the SS space Black in July 2015 Use it every day - still works great on OS4, certainly could be faster but for notifications ect, it works perfectly.

Like a lot of the posts above me, I wore my SS pre-order launch model from the day it arrived until the 22nd. I keep it on my wrist ~23 hours a day, only taking it off to charge. It only ran out of juice a few times, but I really only used it for notifications and health/activity tracking. Having sleep tracking (I use AutoSleep) is one of my favorite features. Everything still functions perfectly, but when composing messages and using any of the apps it can be painfully slow.

I did try an aluminum Series 2, but after a week I didn't think the upgrade was worth it and it went back to Apple. Now, as my AppleCare+ coverage comes to an end I decided this was the time to upgrade. Honestly, if LTE hadn't been introduced I might have tried to get more life out of my original. On the other hand the processor upgrade on the S3 is very noticeable, there is no lag when accessing the weather or other stock applications. Time will tell how much I use the LTE.

I feared this but it never happened to me. I hope it doesn't now that I'm not using it daily.

Although the battery swelling could potentially happen to any generation Apple Watch, it primarily was affecting the majority of early watch adapters from April 2015. But there were instances where it was beyond that and even affected some Series 1/2 owners, but was far more rare. The reassurance is that Apple will rectify the situation and replace it the Watch.

Hi there, I’m thinking about getting the new Series 3, and obviously the price for the stainless steel is a bit high. I wanted to know if anyone still is using the first Apple Watch that came out 3 years ago and how is it functioning?
Worn it early morning to late at night since June 2015. Goes where I go. Knocked against walls, splashed in the boat. Lots of battery left at bedtime. Amazing bit of kit.

Update: after updating to watch OS 4 this morning, I had normal battery left over end of the day, about 35%

I’m more tempted to buy the stainless steel if I think I can get 3-5 years out of it. I have a MacBook Pro that is over 6 years old and still works great, so I feel like it was worth paying the extra $ for it.

Thanks!

Still have it - series 0 black stainless - held up perfectly. In pristine condition and I wear it all the time. Functions great even on watchOS4. That said..I am getting a black stainless series 3 today. So I am hoping to get some use out of that as well. Resale is garbage, but I didn't get it to make money on it - I got it because I love it...

...have to say I am also still using my original series 42mm Space Grey Apple Watch. It's still going perfectly - no slowdown (has Watch OS 4.0) or anything and functions 100% perfectly. I don't have any need for any of the new features of the newer watches so have no reason to swap it out.
:)

Wearing my S0 while waiting on my S3 Nike+, so still time time cancel.

Thinking about pairing both Watches to the same iPhone so as some have suggested, can use the older one for sleep tracking. Not sure if I would want to upgrade S0 to watchOS 4 yet. Seems to be conflicting experiences, but there's no turning back once upgraded.
