So I've begun fixing/maxing out my MacBook Pro Mid-2010 13" and was curious how many are still using them. If so what configurations(RAM,ODD Bay,HDD,etc).

My MBP 2010 had a fatal drop last year which killed the HDD cable inside of it and corrupted any drive connected to it(I managed to get most files off of the SSD luckily). I was forced to use the ODD bay for my Sandisk Z400S 240Gb and had to take my 750GB HDD out. I began to get constrained with storage, I forget why I didn't order a new HDD cable but I dealt with it. Unbeknownst to me, my parents bought me a MacBook Air 2015 1.6ghz 128gb and later surprised me with it. That spelled the end for my MBP 2010 at the time, my MBA is my daily driver now which I use in school. And as I said above, I began fixing it now since I don't like seeing it as a paper weight and I'm finding myself constrained with my 128GB SSD in my MacBook Air(too pricey for a SSD, 1tb at least).

I replaced the HDD cable, and I am now running a Samsung 850 Evo 256gb. Next stop is the ODD bay(I probably will transfer my SSD to it though this time.), I'm looking at a 2TB HDD for it. Not sure what I'm going to get exactly, maybe a Western Digital drive or Seagate.

As for the RAM, I am running 6GBs(2gb+4gb) since my two 4gb sticks can't be down clocked to 1066mhz. I would like to go for 16GB DDR3 though. For anyone curious, 6gb is fine in High Sierra.

Also have a problem where if you put pressure in the middle, it makes the temp sensor go crazy. Haven't sorted it but it seems to be happening less lately.

I don't use a 2010 13", but I do use a 2010 15" MBP with anti-glare screen, and I love the thing. Upgraded it to an SSD and 8GB RAM and it keeps up well with today's software. Also, the keyboard is the best I've ever typed on. Crisp and responsive. I also own a 2015 15" but primarily use the 2010 because of the anti-glare screen and fabulous keyboard. I'm hoping that someday, when I kick the bucket, my family with toss the old 2010 MBP in the casket with me so I can keep up with Macrumours from the afterlife. Got it notated in my will...

I've got a mid-2009 MacbookPro, and I upgraded it just a few months ago, and it's going strong on Sierra !

I put a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD in the main HDD bay, 8GB RAM (max for my mid-2009), and installed a large 2TB second drive (for media storage) in the optical bay, in a caddy.

Here are the 2TB drive and caddy I bought:

Caddy: https://www.amazon.com/Proster-Inte...01I978OSA/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Very nice! And I love the keyboard on my 2010. It feels a lot more sturdier than the keyboard on my MBA 2015.

I've been debating going for the FireCuda 2TB, is it a fairly quiet drive?

But great to hear it's still going strong!

I fixed up an "as-is" 2010 MBP 13" for a co-worker and it's great. I replaced the sata hard drive cable, put in a 120 GB SSD, 10 GB of ram, and 500 GB mechanical drive in place of the DVD drive.

My brother still uses my old one every day. It was upgraded by myself with an ssd and 8gb of ram within months of buying it, it’s still runnng great even though he has bashed and dinged it to hell over the last 4 years.

Use the ssd in the main drive bay and the HDD in the odd bay as there is a difference in negotiated speed on the 2010 if I remember correctly.

I still use my mid 2010 13" MBP, put in a new battery, upgraded to a 480GB SSD increased RAM to 16GB. I'm still running macOS Sierra, and know I should probably upgrade to High Sierra over the security issue. But I'm not sure how well it will run on my old machine. Plus, every time I've upgraded the OS it changed some of my settings and asked for passwords that I don't remember.
