Anyone succesfully using BT Openzone/BT Fon Wifi with iPad 2?

I was fully intending to sign up for the 12 month tariff but have read about problems connecting etc.

I also came across BT Openzone page

Is it advisable to download this?

No problems with Openzone.

What you would be downloading there is a config for the built in VPN client of iOS. As the wireless part of Openzone / FON and most other hotspots is not encrypted, it would be very easy for someone to steal information from you. So yes it's advisable to use a VPN if you can, when you are using an open wifi network.

So you have connected without issue? weird that others are complaining they cant connect.

Do you use BT broadband at home? Just wondering if that makes a difference

Have done with the iPad 1 fine. I wonder if people are saying they can't connect to openzone via the free access that comes with some 3G tariffs. This is only free at BTs public hotspots, not on openzone associated with BT Home Hubs.

Yes and yes. It's as thunderbunny said, The access included with your tarrif is for Openzone 'Red' hotspots. With BT broadband you get access to the blue (BT FON) hotspots that are from peoples bt home hubs, provided you have opted in to BT FON.

If you are paying Openzone direct for a subscription then you can use both.

There is an app that shows you blue and red hotspots..
