I have tried so many times to sync my 1.7tb iCloud photo lib down to an external drive 4tb Seatgate ironwolf via USB 3.0. I connect it to a Mac (M1 MacBook Pro), it churns for weeks and never finishes. I have done the regular things:
Ensure Mac never sleeps
Check internet (1Gbps)
I think it might be the vast amount of small reads just don’t work on a mechanical drive. I’m thinking maybe if I get an SSD it might take a reasonable amount of time (2-3days not 2-3months). Has anyone had this issue and did an SSD solve it?
