Even asking is kind of ridiculous. You broke it, so pay to fix it.

Confucius once said (or maybe it was his brother Ralphucious): "The only ridiculous question one asks of a credit card company is the one THAT IS NOT ASKED." What did it cost to file a claim? Nothing. How much time did it take to do it? 20-30 seconds. What did I lose by asking? Absolutely nothing. Was I any worse off than if I had not asked? NO. Was there a small chance I might get lucky? Possibly.

Had it been AMEX and not Discover there would have been a much higher possibility I would have collected because I have found a number of people that have after Googling the topic. Sometimes AMEX pays just because one is a good customer as I have been for almost 40 years. They are known for that. I chose Discover to save $200.

But I do appreciate your judgement and your wisdom. Please note the thread was marked RESOLVED. ;)

I don't care if it's POSSIBLE they'll pay for it. The fact is, you're dirty to ask. YOU caused the issue. You. Yourself. Man up and take responsibility.

See, normally I would agree with this statement, but this time I don't. Credit card companies do offer theft and accident protection. Usually it only covers the first 90 days, but this is a time where it does not hurt to ask. Its no different than your device being out of warranty but you take it in, and Apple offers you an exception and fixes or replaces your device as if it were under warranty. Its on the company to say yes or no.

Now I would have gone a different way. Not try to claim it as extended warranty protection, but see if they are willing to work with you on filing an accident claim, even if its over 90 days.

Actually, I never claimed it as an "extended warranty" (that was the department I was told by Discover CSr I should call). I told them exactly what happened. I was running, I fell, and I broke the screen. Claims rep took the claim and said they would let me know and they did exactly that.

To Mister Cocky: I must say though, I did feel sooooo dirty after doing that but like "they" say "sometimes eating some dirt actually is healthy due to all the minerals." Eventually I washed out my mouth with soap for spewing such vile heresy and I will definitely burn in hell for the blasphemous and failed attempt!

:D :D

Edit: MODS PLEASE close this thread ....... it is getting so silly.

Yup. So silly that someone should take responsibility for their own actions. Hell, maybe you could ask the cashier at the grocery store to pay for it, right? I mean, they might say yes.

Why do credit card companies offer insurance on purchases if it's immoral to use it as a consumer?

Credit card companies don't have a conscience when pressure selling their product knowing certain people are vulnerable to debt. The only time I use a credit card is when I need extra cover in case a purchase goes wrong, for example buying online. They also offer cover on accidental damage. If they offer it, i'll use it thank you very much.

I have no idea why some people have such strong opinions against the OP, for using a service and coverage that comes as part of his credit card. How is this any different from using Price Protection, or people like me who purchase all of their electronics on a Amex for the extra year of warranty?

It is a coverage that is given to the cardholder, since Discover offers accidental protection. He broke his screen, it was an accident. Why is he not allowed to use said service?

If the CC offers warranty/insuarance on said item, there is nothing 'dirty' about asking. If you don't know if there's coverage and ask, what's the harm? If you get in an auto accident, is it 'dirty' to file a claim with your insurance company? This would only be 'dirty' if the OP filed a claim to deceive the CC company, I don't think that's what happened here.
[doublepost=1463060041][/doublepost]Come to think of it, perhaps I don't know what 'dirty' means? Does it mean shady, dubious, dishonest, unscrupulous, or unethical. if so, the OP is not 'dirty" for asking.

It's ok. One day you'll have to fix your own mistakes instead of begging like a homeless man for someone else to do it for you. Surprised you haven't posted a PayPal link for donations yet.

The free card benefits kind of remind me of Costcos previously amazing return policy. People "abused" it and eventually it went away. Soon enough I'd expect the same to happen here.

You're going to hate me. Somebody crashed into my car a couple of months back and I filed a claim instead of paying £2700 to repair the damage myself lol.

FairPlay to you though, despite being outdone in this thread, you've held your unorthodox opinion.

LIKE a homeless man? I am a homeless man! Been homeless for 69 1/2 years when my mother abandoned me for wanting free milk immediately after I was born. I was considering a PayPal donation link but in the end the State of NJ paid for my screen because I applied for iPhoneiCaid (an unknown free supplement to medicaid for us homeless :apple: users) which is free to us homeless folks in NJ. I love all those secret entitlement programs.

:D

This is so much fun! In before the lock and anxiously awaiting your next reply.

So if you ever have an accident with your car, I assume you will pay out of pocket to fix thousands of damages instead of going to the insurance company, right? I mean, after all why utilize something that is offered to you by a company?

Just to be a little fair to Mister Cocky my iPhone technically was NOT covered by any accidental damage insurance for which I was well aware. I was (trying to) claim it under my "extended warranty" coverage on my Discover card and created this thread to see if anyone else had any experience doing that under extended warranty.

I had already paid for the repair at Apple BEFORE making the claim but based on other people's experience that I found with AMERICAN EXPRESS they sometimes will cover it for "good customers" so I figured WTH I will give it a shot. Nothing to lose except for 10 minutes out of my 69+yr long life.

I filed a claim with Discover (as suggested by the DISCOVER REP) and they refused it. Should have been END OF STORY (thread was marked as "resolved") for me but Mister Cocky decided to turn me into a scamming insurance thief with no morals sucking the life blood out of my credit card (LOL) which is why this thread continues it's decline into ludicrousness.

I figured I'd try putting in the claim (once again AS SUGGESTED by the Discover CSR when I told her EXACTLY how it got damaged, ie. was my fault for falling on my run) and worse case they wouldn't pay. I tried, they didn't pay as I expected and that should have been the end but as usual the "holier then thou" trolls were hungry and needed to be fed.
