Anyone swim with their S0?

I realize that the S0 is not waterproof, but there are many threads of users that shower with it and don't worry about getting it wet.

I'm wondering if anyone has actually used it for swimming. I'm assuming that the swim option comes up for the Workout. If not, are there recommendations on a swim app for the S0?

Much depends on how much you enjoy your S0 and if it is worth the risk of it leaking. Even the smallest amount of water will ruin the LCD. Some have had water intrusion while taking a shower, swimming would be much worst!

Is swimming with your Apple watch really that important to you?
 
I sold my S0 when I bought my S3 but do remember even when updated to 4.0 there was no swimming workout or water lock feature - neither the S0 or S1 are designed to be waterproof or offer these features.

I believe there are some 3rd party cases that claim to offer waterproofing but I don't know about 3rd party swimming apps. If anybody was providing a swimming app for an AppleWatch I would imagine they would target one that had a swimming mode and could log the session into the exercise app, something you aren't going to be able to do with an unsupported activity.
 
Back when I had my S0 I had no issues or concerns about bringing it in water. I was in the ocean with it for a short time and brought it into the pool without thinking much about it. Not saying that was recommended, but I never had any issues personally with it.

The first generation Apple Watch is splash resistant rated, some have had zero issues with swimming with it and others have had failures. There is just no guarantee, as it’s at your own risk either way. All the results can be variable of what everybody experiences.

S0 is the original Apple Watch, famous for the super expensive gold versions. S1 is the original Apple Watch but with the speedier processor, only available in aluminium versions. S2 is the second gen, S3 is the current 3rd gen.

I meant what did S0 stand for. (Or is it SO. I can't tell if it is "O" or "0" :))

Series 0 (zero) - Us MacRumors nerds’ unofficial designation to the original (first generation) WATCH, released in 2015.

Not to be confused with the Series 1 (S1) which was released alongside the Series 2 (S2) in 2016.

I've taken my Series 0 out to surf. If you look at the "others" in the workout app, there's actually a surfing workout. I don't recommend it though. Most of what you'll be doing is hard strokes in the water which means more chances of water filling in the mic and speaker holes.

If you're planning on replacing it, then YOLO the hell out of that watch. Otherwise, proceed with caution as you're playing with luck.
 
I used to swim laps with my S0 all the time - Google a review of the S0 by DC Rainmaker - As long as you're sure the watch has never been opened or lost it's seals - you're fine.
 
Never risked taking it for a swim... I do shower with it though and never had any problems there... Been doing so since it's release ages ago :)

Thanks, that's good info. (And yes, I've read quite a few of your reviews, and consider you a credible source)

FWIW, I have a new S3 that I love to take swimming, and was wondering about using my old S0 for that too. Thus the question.

The S0 is not worth much on ebay or craigslist, so rather than have it sit around collecting dust, I thought it would be useful as my main swim and run device. That way I save the wear and tear on my S3.

If it crapped out, then no big loss. But if it would certainly drown on the first swim, then I wouldn't do it. I'd just use it for runs.
 
Have been swimming with S0 for over a year in the pool with Swim.com app that works perfectly on S0! It counts laps and calories which is exactly what I need. That’s why I’m not planning to upgrade anytime soon
 
I have swam with my S0 a several times, however the last time I did (about 2 weeks ago), I believe water got into the watch and now my watch is slowing failing.

Swam with my s0 multiple times in the pool, then got it replaced with a s1 because of the battery popping off the screen. First time I took s1 swimming in a river (about 6 months after it was replaced) - got some water inside, ruined the screen and possibly more. Apple estimated $199 plus tax for Out of Warranty Replacement
 
I know every product has to start somewhere, but I really think Apple should have made the first generation Apple Watch 50 m water resistance and not just include that for the Series 2 and beyond. I also realize that the first generation Apple Watch is far more water resistant in most cases over splash rated, as many have attested to showing, swimming, etc. with Watch and having no issues. I think Apple undermined the splash resistance rating.
 
If you have a Series 3 as well I’d use that for swimming as it’ll log it properly as a workout.
