anyone that replaced their iphone recently, can you swap the color?

If bought you the iPhone within the past 30 days you'll be able to swap it out.
I bought my black iPhone on April 6th and took it back to the Apple Store on May 4th-I basically exchanged the black iPhone for the white one.

I don't get it, if you people want a white iPhone, just buy one, why do you think they'll give you one for free?

This. Oh well, thats a shame, guess I'll have to stick with the black then.
ATT gave me a free IP4 white just for staying a customer another two years. I am not sure what to do with the old 3GS tho. I have already wiped it clean (I think - I haven't checked it)

If there is a fault and they are willing to swap it out, yeah. But not if you just go in and ask for a colour swap.
Why don't you go to a store and report back what happened? Seriously, they are different devices that you pay separately for. You paid for a black one, expect to keep a black one.
That's awesome how many years have you been with AT&T currently? Did you ask them on the customer service line if they could give you a free white iphone or what? That's great man

How in the world did you get a "free iPhone" from ATT retention? I have never heard of any ATT rep giving a customer a free iPhone.
I am a longtime 7 plus year customer, with $200 dollar plus bill always paid on time.
I can get activation fees waived. I can get free bonus minutes I can get A list plan below the$59.99 individual and $89.99 family plan threshold. I can get most android phones "free" from retention for upgrading. But I have never heard of them discounting or giving iPhone away for free.
Even those old "blue" customers which ATT is/are terminating can't get a free iPhone.
Yeah unless something has changed in the past couple of months, I have never heard of an offer of a free iPhone from retentions from ATT. They give u service credit in place of equipment subsidies but never discount iPhones.
The reason they can give free Android phones is cause they most likely get discounts from companies like Motorola or Samsung for their phones. So when Samsung says their retail price for their smartphone is $499. ATT most likely get it from them for around $350-400 in bulk.
Whereas Apple charges almost all their carriers full price ($599-699) and doesn't give them very much in terms of bulk discounts. That's why Apple sells each phone for an average of $630 (according to the latest reports). This is the average of the 16 and 32GB iPhone 4 models. ATT is already eating $400 plus on their full subsidies they give to eligible customers.
