I've run a 1080Ti.
As long as you have webdrivers from nvidia for the OS, then it's completely possible.
Check that. If you have drivers the card will work.

It may be a little more involved than a Radeon card which is plug and play. But again completely possible.
egpu.io is a great place to gather information.

I have a RTX2070 in a Razer Core X. It does not work in macOS. It works really well in Windows 10 on my 5K 2017 iMac

so , only AMD's graphic cards work on both Mac Os and windows? I'm considering vega Vii or RTX2080Ti

by the way,
installed the game "the evil within demo" on my iMac Pro with vega 64(latest native bootcamp's driver version 18.50), the message below pop up:
Fix-Xinput1_3.dll-Error 1.png

I checked the systems requirements for the game which needs directx 11, otherwise it won't run.

There is only directX12 on my Windows 10. my questions are:

1) how do I install directx11 and can it co-exist with directX12 please?

2) or I install the latest from bootcampdrivers.com which shall fix the problem?

Yes and no. These are the benchmarks from running it on a 2019 5K iMac.

1) should be same steps as your rtx 2070 for installing RTX2080ti on imac pro windows 10 home bootcamp ?

2) any issue with the start up or wake up from sleep mode on windows for the egpu using imac pro's 5k display?

planned to get the Razer core x with RTX 2080ti, but hesitated after reading an article which said there is much 31% performance drop than those desktop setups

is it a hardware problem or software or alleviated any in recently?

I had no problems with sleep. But yes, there’s definitively a performance loss using thunderbolt 3. How much the loss is will depend on your application.

for gaming , there is about 30% drop on performance using imac's display over desktop set up?

Installing the older Direct X is perfectly fine on Windows 10. Steam games should do this by default if it is an older Direct X. You can get it here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

unless you want to run high sierra so the NVIDIA cards work on the Mac side as well as window you should go AMD even though their cards are inferior.
Apple stopped allowing NVIDIA to make drivers because NVIDIA wouldn't give them full control of the driver stack for metal on 10+ Series cards.
