I've had an Apple Watch since the series 4 (now 10) and find that I have the same issues with all bands:
Metal - inevitably marks up the MacBook Pro case where my wrist rests
Leather - inevitably smells from trapped sweat/oils, etc
Plastic - never loved the look

I googled Wood watch bands as those should fix the issues I had with metal and leather and found TruWood but almost no reviews anywhere. I searched here and didn't get a single hit.

Anyone try them? Thoughts? Particularly interested in the Everyday Band.

Thanks

Never tried wood, but your leather concern is an easy solve. Plenty of leather bands from Nomad, Barton, and others that have silicone on the inside, so the leather is not touching your skin.
