Anyone try a Note 5 then switch back to iPhone?

I just bought a Note 5..going to make it my primary phone and iPhone 6S my secondary.

Its the best of both worlds in my opinion. I switch back and forth all the time. Sometimes weekly....sometimes daily!
What stands out right away is the strengths and weaknesses of both platforms. They both have great things to offer.

What irks the heck out of me is the display to body ratio of the iPhones. I think my 6s Plus is a goner soon.

The pros of the stylus and "note screen", and the body design that allows the Note to rock a 5.7" screen while being considerably smaller than the iPhone 6s+ could not overcome the "busy-ness" of the OS layout, the scattered app placement and the lack of continuity that I find so appealing with my iOS devices.

Oh well...I gave it a shot. I guess I'm a glutton for simplicity, smoothness, and an OS that simply works.

But you can unbusy the layout very easily. I'm not sure what you mean by scattered apps, the app drawer is very similar to iOS screens except you can actually customize it, add folders, etc. I don't think there is an OS with a more scattered appearance than having to scroll through endless pages of icons and icons, trying to hunt down the app you want to open. Don't get me wrong, I like iOS. It's just that every time I pick up an iPhone I groan in frustration at the UI and layout, which in trying to be simple ends up being more complicated.

It's tough to switch OS' though, I definitely go back and forth and am sure I will buy both a Note 7 and an iPhone 7. But when you go to something not familiar, very often you get pushed back to what you were familiar with. On the other hand if you stick it out, quite often you will find you acclimate and grow to like your new surroundings. I resisted Android for a long time, but now find it harder to go back to iOS, and even harder to stay with it.

Yes! I went from a Nexus 5 to importing a Note 5, loved it's power, it's camera, the screen. Didn't like the prospect of Samsung dropping support for it after 2 years, the difference in font size on the widget due to it's high res screen, it's size.

I really could not get on with it's physical size.

So I got a refund and bought an iPhone 6S 64GB, it's font sizes are fine, in fact I have it in the mode where I lose a row of icons for bigger ones 🙂 and it's nice and compact. It's also just as powerful and iOS is iOS. It pretty much works, oh and I have been using Siri an awful lot and it's the ONLY voice assistant I have used.
iOS is a hell of a lot easier to setup, so simple. But then that's the attraction of Android.


To be totally honest, I miss the Note 5 but am not sad I have an iPhone, they really are BOTH fantastic phones, it's a pretty hard choice to make, for me though it was at the end of the day as the Note 5 was my first phablet and for me, unfortunately, it was too big.

The iPhone 7 is NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Unfortunately I dropped it when walking the dog so it has some small scratches on the bottom edge, so I can't send it back now 🙁

Anyway I kept my Ringke Slim case for my Note 5 I had, and when I get my money for my 6S I've sent to MusicMagpie I'm seriously considering importing a Note 5 again, because it's 395 pounds currently! The Note 7 is around seven hundred pounds and MUCH better value then the iPhone 7, the Note 5 blows it out the water with value. I've been thinking the size isn't too terrible.

My usage has changed now as I'm in a job I can leave my phone on my desk, so I am very tempted to get a Note 5 and see what it's like, and then keep or sell the iPhone 7.

Sorry for a rant but when I type on my 500 pounds iPad Pro, then look at my 700 pounds 4.7" iPhone 7, you can't help but think about value for money.

The iPhone 7 camera isn't that much more impressive, it vibrates a lot when the speakers are turned up, the home button feels weird, and the new Apple leather case, although it protected it when I dropped it, feels cheap and makes the phone feel cheap.

So Apple has changed my opinion, they changed it with the 6S and changed it back with the 7, and I DID buy their story of Brexit causing the price hike.....but...... if that's the case how come they haven't raised a penny on anything else bar iOS devices and accessories then? All the Macs are the same price!

Basically my opinion of the iPhone 7 is that the camera needs further testing but over the 6S it's the ONLY THING it POSSIBLY has going for it! Yeah I shouldn't have believed the hype and kept my 6S hohum..
If you have a 6S I wouldn't bother upgrading, in the UK anyway, unless you get a stupid cheap contract.

You should have gotten an iPhone 7 plus over the 7 not much difference in price there.

A mm on the top and bottom 2mm on the sides, the iPhone is actually 5 mm thinner than the note 5. And about 16 grams heavier? Again negligible.

Well, that's subjective. If you felt so strongly against it probably shouldn't have bought one in the first place, but since you did, you should have went for 7 plus instead of the regular 7. The iPhone 7 or plus was never going to do split screen. No idea why you even brought that up.

Because if you can notice an additional millimeter on either side, you must think that the 5 mm difference in depth between the two handsets is much more than a "noticeable difference."

You can visually see the iPhone is thinner, mainly because the note 5 looks more curvy

But it's narrow and easier to hold and it's lighter then the 6s plus. The note 7 is even easier to hold as its even more narrow then the both of them

The size difference is noticeable to me, I had a Note 5 before and my Brother in laws 6 Plus was bigger to me. I don't think I'll go iPhone again as they are too expensive in the fact they offer really poor value for money. The competition is so much better in that regard. I was expecting a lot more from the camera it must be said.

The iPhone 6S is good value but it was cheaper then the 7 by a noticeable amount. I can get a Note 5 for 395, put in my Tesco Mobile sim and for 12.40 a month I get 5000 text and 500 mins and 2 GB data, I have a cap of 2.50 to go over, I can then install another Tesco app that shows me an ad every time I unlock the phone and that cuts £3 a month off the bill. That to me is crazy value, not that I would get an app to show me a Tesco advert.

The iPhone offers value if it performs, the new one just doesn't and just feels cheap, iOS 10 is buggy too on the device it's built to run best on!

I think I will run both devices for a bit to compare then sell the iPhone 7 on, I certainly notice that iOS 10 runs better on my iPad Pro which this new dangled iPhone 7 supposedly outperforms..

Ok so I've ordered a Note 5. In the UK what is the best way to sell my iPhone? If I go the eBay route I'll have to pay fees but it is usually pretty safe, I would just want to post the phone, not have someone pick it up. Does Craig's List charge a sellers fee and can you use PayPal?

Looks like the difference is about same as between oneplus one and iphone 6S+. Only few millimeters.

Looks small, negligible but in a reality, that small difference makes my iphone 6S+ feels huge compared to my oneplus one.
