Anyone out there turn off apple AI to get better battery life? Wanted to know your experiences and what you missed most

Turning it on/off doesnt seem to work since it needs to reindex I guess LP mode is an option.

Thanks in advance

I have done this, and battery life is definitely better without it. I wind up turning it off and back on fairly regularly, mostly because of FOMO. But now I’m starting to use Siri as a search engine, and I’ll probably miss that when I eventually turn it off again. 🙃

I already have great battery life, so I never considered turning Apple Intelligence off. I'm not on my phone all the time and can go three or four days between charges, which has been the norm for me.

It's not like Apple Intelligence is constantly running in the background and consuming the battery. It's only going to do stuff when you're doing stuff. If you're generating a lot of images and emojis, using Siri / ChatGPT, or playing around with the other AI features, then yeah...the battery is going to drain faster. By turning it off, you're just forcing yourself not to do those things, and therefore saving battery that way.

Say you like to play a game that eats up battery power while you're playing it. You don't uninstall the game every time you're done, do you? Probably not. Simply closing the game is enough. I think the same can be said for AI. It's only going to consume battery when you're actively using it.

AI has passive tasks such as notification or email summaries/calculating priority/indexing that run in the background. Battery could still be affected even if you're not actively using AI features.

Is it just as simple as switching off the toggle for “Apple intelligence”?

Nothing else hidden I need to switch off?

I updated to 18.3 and immediately noticed my battery hitting 5% to 10% by the end of the day on the 15 pro. This has never happened in the entire time I’ve had this phone. Normally I end up with >20%

Also the phone keeps getting quite hot at times. I’ve not actually noticed anything useful from running with Apple intelligence.

I just find it a novelty despite being quite fond of chat gpt for certain tasks of my choosing.
