it’s a great phone, you’ll adjust to the size, just give some days or weeks.

But I have to admit, when I hold my old SE it just feel perfect (size and weight speaking). With the XR you have to adjust to the phone, the SE adjusts to you and fits perfect...

Really interesting thread.

I've made many posts here about how I'd love a 'SE' FaceID phone... Truth is, that I'm definitely starting to get a little longsighted and that the XR is a way better fit for me.

I'm a 7 user too and I'm in a quandary about how it's going to feel transitioning to the bigger size of the XR.

Mind you, my gf has a 7 Plus with an Apple leather case and that feels absolutely fine to use i.e. I suspect that I'm put off playing around with the XR in the Apple store without a case (that aluminium is slippery).

This is EXACTLY why I upgraded, my eyesight isn’t getting better, I got new glasses this year but I wanted to upgrade from the 4.7” iPhone last year to a bigger model, currently have the XR and I’m enjoying its size, which is annoying as I want more from it.
But the XR also has the zoomed screen mode so the bigger screen and this mode have helped a lot for my eyes.

Side note with the SE:

The only ‘problem’ I had with the SE , wasn’t the size or the weight, it actually was with the sharper edges with the casing surrounding the display. I thought I was the only one that maybe noticed this, and I read where others were making similar remarks, but when you hold the iPhone 7 for example in your hand, you can feel the smoothness of the edges contoured in your hand compared to the SE, which was more sharp in contrast. Obviously an extreme observation, but definitely worth noting if someone has experience with the iPhone SE an iPhone six and onward.

Thanks for sharing. Looking at using the zoom on the XR too - it's not as dramatic as the zoom on the 7 from playing around with it in the Apple Store but I think that it'll help me in exactly the same way as it's helping you.
