I would like to get one of these. I want to hook it up to my 2011 Mini with display port to mini display port. I also want to connect it to my cable box using hdmi to dvi. Will this work?

There are a couple mentions in this thread of dithering issues with the U2412m - depending on your video card. Seems to impact any 6-bit + A-FRC display:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1022386/

I don't know how much of a problem this is, I came across this post researching what monitor to buy. I ended up with the HP ZR24w which has an 8-bit display.

Mac DVI converter works

I currently have a 20" Apple Cinema Display hooked up to my Mac Pro via an Apple DVI to ADO adapter. Can I use this adapter to hook up the U2412M?

Thanks!

Do you mean an ADC to DVI adaptor?

The U2412M has DVI, VGA and DP. I don't believe there's a Mac Pro card out there without DVI, even the lowest-end card in the G5s had DVI, so you'll be fine without any converters at all.

What is the connection on this monitor for the sound bars?

Is it a digital out that you can use with existing hifi equipment?

I'm thinking of getting the Dell 2412. My priority is sharpness for text. Living in a rural area, I can't easily test/compare many products. Could someone tell me how the Dell's sharpness for text compares with an Imac, and other 24-inch monitors of about the same price as the Dell, and Thunderbolt? I currently have a 2007 iMac and a 2006 mini mac running on an old Proview screen (1440). So I want to at least improve on these when I upgrade, but without breaking the bank on Thunderbolt if possible. Thinking of getting Mac Air 13" and the Dell.

thanks.

I use the Dell U2412M with a Mini server, rMBP and MBA using a miniDP --> DVI adaptor. Bear in mind this computer does not come with a display port cable; you only get a DVI cable in the box. I've not tried the display port input. I've also used it with a HDMI -->DVI connector for my xbox without issues (apart from the obvious one that the monitor does not have speakers). The HDMI --> DVI also works perfectly with a Mini Server connected to the monitor. I am referring to the HDMI --> DVI connector that comes with a mini.

I would say at the price point it's one of the best monitors available at this size, especially considering the 1920x1200 resolution as opposed to the normal (and not as good for working) 1920x1080 resolution. I have both a 24" ACD and the 24" Dell and I prefer the Dell, because the glossy bezel of the ACD is distracting.

Ordered one of this aswell, but didn't managed to get signol on it here :(
Always goes right away to power saver mode when connectingt to MBP Media 2009.
I always used a Samsung 2232bw as external monitor with my mini-dp to DVI adapter, which works great.

Today I have been trying and trying without result. Neither in my Mac OS X Lion nor in my Bootcamp Windows 7 x64. Probably it has something to do with my (unofficial) mini-dp to DVI adapter. Bought one at dealextreme:

What do you think guys?

As I mentioned way above, I got the cable linked below for my Dell LCD 2412M and thus far after some months, its still a ticking....

using u2412m with a mac

I was wondering if anyone was using it, and if it works well? There's a comment on the Dell website by a Mac user saying it doesn't work with DisplayPort with a Mac. I was wondering if that was an isolated incident or if anyone else is having these problems. Also, I was wondering how the USB hub works. Do you have to attach one usb cable from the Mac to the display, or can the hub function using the DisplayPort connection?

Thanks in advance

I just recently purchased a used one and run it on my "macbook air" I love this monitor. I connected with a new thunderbolt to display cable and a printer usb cable to activate the usb hubs on the monitor. Not having HDMI to me is not a concern since the display port provides the same digital signal for video and better audio. Also like the 16.10 aspect ratio since the screen is taller. I use the Macbook in clamshell mode with a Mac bluetooth keyboard and mighty mouse I picked up at a garage sale for 1.00 Great Monitor especially for the money!

I am running this monitor with Mac Mini 2014 and font looks very blurry, while on Windows is very sharp. Pictures look good on both though.
Is that your experience as well?

This is a similar email on windows. Night and day.

PS In this second pic you have to zoom in for some reason to see it sharp.

For Mais78.
I have read about some people having your issue. Apparently they solved it using a thunderbolt/mini-display to displayport cable instead of the dvi.

Hope it helps.

I used dual U2412M monitors on my late 2013 rMBP

I have actual solid recent personal experience with using dual Dell U2412M monitors on my late 2013 rMBP.

They are great !!! Crisp, clear, clean.

I used a mini-dp to dp 1.2 cable for one of them, and a DVI-to-HDMI cable for the other one. That setup was awesome.

I eventually traded them in for an LG 34UM95, and I love that one even more.

But to answer your question: The 1920x1200 on the U2412M worked great and was clear, crisp, and totally awesome. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a clean, crisp, high-performing 1920x1200 setup on a Mac.

Lucky you that you find 94dpi on a mac crisp and clear..

Clear is clear....it's not subjective. If your eyes are 20/20 vision, everyone sees "clear" at about the same thing.

I used a HiDPI tool, so maybe my 1920x1200 was more clear than some people see.

My new 34" LG is 109.68 DPI and dot pitch is .23.

Calculated at https://www.sven.de/dpi/

The font on the dell is not clear at all, being a photographer i can tell what is sharp and clear and what is not. I fell mac font rendering (that unlike windows does not use font-to-pixel matching) requires at least 150 dpi to be called crisp and at least 200 dpi to be retina sharp. The dell is pretty crisp on windows though. Talking about fonts, no difference in image rendering between the two OS.

TFT Central review of the U2412M:

At native resolution the text was sharp as you can see from the top photograph. When you switch to a lower resolution the text is more blurry, but not quite as severe as some other screens we have tested. There is some overlapping of the text across sub-pixels as you can see in the photo which results in this blurring. Native resolution is recommended where possible.

Many, many reviews on various sites indicate that the owners consider the text clear and crisp at 1920x1200. Some think it's not as clear. But I think an overall consensus is that the text is clear at 1920x1200.

I am assuming they tested on Windows and not Yosemite. Anyway the world has changed in the last 4 years. 4k/retina has redefined the concept of sharp. You just need to look at your Retina ipad and then at your monitor to see what sharp is. I wish my eyes were happy with 100 dpi, i would save lots of $$$.

If you can't see "dots" then it is "clear." On OSX, I did not see dots from normal viewing distances with the U2412M.

The "high DPI revolution" is yet to take over external monitor world. It's moving that way, but it is not there yet. Anyone expecting that much DPI on a huge monitor should be ready to wait for the technology and drivers to mature.

I do see the blur between one pixel and another on OSX. I think fonts at 1900x1200 on OSX are as sharp (or not sharp) as 1024x768 on windows due to the different rendering.

I solved the problem with a Dell UP2414Q, 185 ppi, fantastic! 95 ppi on a mac is just not usable.
Now I got a big retina display.

I can append for you: "95 ppi on a mac is just not usable for me."

Because when I had two U2412Ms running at 1920x1200 HiDPI, they were perfectly clear to my eyes. And I'm 51...:D:apple:
