Mine works like a champ. If you're wanting to watch movies or use it as a monitor make sure you set it to Mirror.

I have my Mac Mini connected to a 42" HD TV that way and get an excellent picture, and the OS X looks crispy clean on the TV.

Why don't you just get a 'mini-display port -> HDMI' adapter from monoprice.com for around $15?

I'm using this solution and it works perfect. Why not direct to hdmi? Because that cable didn't exist back when I bought my mbp unibody. 🙂
