Hi,

I have a MacBook and a Galaxy S10 phone and was just wondering if anyone was using Firefox with their MacBook Air and if they saw much difference in battery life??

The reason I'm asking is just that it would be nice to automatically sync bookmarks b/w the two devices, but I know Safari is optimized for the MacBook so probably will get better battery life.

Thanks

The Mozilla Foundation has recently improved battery performance with the macOS Firefox which for years had been an unrepentant resource pig.

It still isn't as good as Safari.

But try it out for yourself. Maybe you'll decide that the syncing capabilities are more valuable to you than the loss of notebook battery life.

You could do the same with Google Chrome, also an egregious resource pig on macOS for years and years.

I switched 2-3 years ago from Safari to Firefox on my late-2013 MBP. It had little negative effect on battery and even now if I check various web pages, I find Firefox loads them noticeably quicker. Part of that is due to FF supporting uBlock Origin though, and part due to smarter reloads when going back a page, especially in forums.

Give it some time. 10th gen Intel integrated graphics are more than capable of doing this. Once again VP9 is not supported natively on Mac, so let’s hope that AV1 will become the new standard. Your Mac will be able to hardware decode it.

I use Firefox for streaming video content from Disney Plus, CBS Access and Netflix. For some reason I have issues trying to use Safari and Firefox plays them seemlessly.
