Is anyone connecting a MIDI keyboard or Digital Piano to the iPad Pro and successfully using it with apps such as Garage Band, Korg Module and iGrand Piano?

If so, what are you using to physically connect the keyboard/piano to the iPad Pro?

Thanks!

I use a lightning to USB adapter to hook my midi controller to my iPad Air 2.

Thanks for your reply, but that type of connection simply doesn't work for my digital piano (a Kawai VPC1) when using the iPad Pro. (However, it did work with my iPad 4.)

FYI, I contacted Kawai and was very surprised to find out that the VPC1 does not officially support the iPad! Please note that other digital pianos/keyboards may very well work with the iPad Pro though. Unfortunately, mine did not -- until I got this device, that is. :) Now it works just fine.

So, anyone with a piano/keyboard that isn't working with the iPad Pro might want to try it.

I'm a happy camper now!

I have an iPad pro 128 wifi, and I set with a 61 midi controller, and my Casio privia PX-5s and works great with lightning camera usb.
I use igrand piano and CMP GRAND PIANO, and sampletank

Do you use a midi in out cable?from your piano to the iPad?

Yes - Mine is 128 wifi as well. And I DO use a MIDI in - out cable, NOT USB to MIDI. The USB to MIDI port on the piano goes to my laptop computer for use with other software. FWIW - That said, as I recall, USB to MIDI to a USB to Lightning connector did NOT work on my iPad Pro either (in my case).

Glad that you got yours sorted out (and glad that I also got mine working....)

Hi Guys, when i used an old Ipad 2 with the camera connection kit i could send midi strings from my Onsong app to Roland FA06 workstation without any problems. Now i have an Ipad pro with the lightning to usb camera connection kit and it does not work.. Why is this? Sending midi data does not take much power, there should not be any problem. Can someone tell me if it`s a setting OR point me to another device which is not a large midi interface? Cheers, Tim

Like you, the set up I used with my iPad 4 did not work with my iPad Pro. After doing some research, I decided to try this device to connect my MIDI keyboard to my iPad and it works great. I use it with various iPad keyboard/piano apps such as Korg Module.

I'm not 100% sure that it will work for your purposes, but it might be worth a try.

Good Luck.

Well my keyboard midi input is a square USB. What is strange is that the Roland forums say i can connect a Lightning to USB adapter, the same i have now. It`s rather crazy that you cannot send a simple midi string with this lightning camera kit.. in other words, this adapter cannot send midi at all, only recieve it! The old Ipad2/3 camera kit could send midi without a problem. I need to buy a midi interface now.
