Excellent :)
[doublepost=1540933262][/doublepost]Can't get it to work via Macports - the pip install has dependencies that are clashing with versions already installed for SMTube...if anyone more versed in such things would like to try ;)
Hmm, I didn't have that problem, but I also don't use MacPorts. We use Homebrew at my work so I naturally gravitated toward it for home usage as well. Sounds like you already have pip installed though, so could you not just skip to the "pip3 install" steps? Not sure exactly what you've tried.

No there was no pip - it was the dependencies that were causing trouble.
I'm doing a fresh Leopard install on another Powerbook and will put Tigerbrew on it and try again.

Done a fresh Leopard install on my 12" 1.33 Powerbook including Tigerbrew and got mps-youtube up and running fine.
@dbdjre0143 you can set mplayer options in mps-youtube with the set playerargs preference - also max_res is good for setting 720 or 360P.
The clear advantage it has over SMTube is the option to set it to 3gp playback - saving a lot of CPU/battery on a portable - plus a whole raft of download options too.

Anyone else hate the crash reporter randomly popping up and chewing up the cpu for a minute or two? Well, here's the solution:
sudo /etc/init.d/apport stop (stops this service)
sudo nano /etc/default/apport and change enabled=1 to enabled=0 (this permanently disables it upon reboot)

Cheers

I didn't think there would be much of a difference between a 1.5ghz g4 and a 1.6ghz g5 (other than ram). Boy was i wrong! This lowest end pmac g5 with Lubuntu flies. Boot time is easily 4x times faster, as is the whole user experience. Better yet, Arctic Fox speeds along like it's as light weight as Dillo. Guess i'll toss os9 back on the macmini because this is staying.
For the record, this g5 is now triple booting 10.4/10.5/Lubuntu. No MacOSX was harmed in the making of this post. ;)

Cheers

Hmm, neat. I've heard a G5 is essentially a server-capable POWER4 with fewer cores and the Altivec bits bolted on

Wouldn't surprise me if IBM did some work to make GCC and Linux work better on the POWER4s and later chips, and the G5 benefits from being downstream of that. By comparison, Linux on a G3/G4 has never felt as good as it could be.

Here's a quick rebrand of FF52. I also disabled pocket, telemetry, webrtc and update service. Not recommended for anything less than a G5, but will work on G3/G4 if there is a stubborn website you need to work properly *cough* github.com *cough*. Built for ubuntu 16 / debian 9. It may or may not work on other systems. When you first load the browser go in to add-ons and disable the OpenH264 plugin, then exit the browser. If you don't do this the intel plugin will try to load and spike your cpu to 100%. Now get yourself an adblocker for FF52 and enjoy.

This is a one-time build. I will not be supporting it. I built it just for github.com, since it's semi broken in Arctic Fox (thanks microsoft!), and i needed that site to work to continue work on Arctic Fox. If it works for you, great. If not, sorry.

@Dronecatcher : Using this guide i got an updated mps-youtube, and i'm using the mpv player bundled with 16.04. No rebuilding mplayer needed. :)

(i used the pip3 installer method, and installed youtube_dl via pip3 as well)
360p-480p works the best and doesn't kill the cpu. Average 50-70% cpu. 720p is somewhat doable at 90-100% cpu. 1080p plays, but is not watchable. Video lags badly behind the audio.

Cheers.
