Correct. If you play something in plex that the client doesn't support it will transcode. But it's not an all or nothing thing. Plex will only transcode the part that isn't supported. I don't know what your audio and video files are but at the very least it's transcoding the container. So every time I play an mkv with plex on the 4K Apple TV it’s transcoding? My base 2014 Mac mini can easily handle 4 streams of mkv files... all 1080p. Same with the Samsung tv plex app. So I’m confused. I was looking for a pr4100 but the Mac mini seems to serve well so far.
Whatever you do something is going to be on all the time. It's not a big deal. I leave my PC on 24/7 and have for years. I'm also running Sonarr so it stays on to auto download shows as well.i'm new to this PLEX with Apple TV4. Right now i have all my media on my PC and its on 24/7 for me to access Plex anywhere. What do you all suggest I'll get so my PC is not always on? a mac mini with a HDD enclosure hook up to it?
By activating DLNA Server feature on Plex? How exactly does Infuse work without a server? For instance I'm currently using Plex and running the server on an old Windows laptop that I have installed Lubuntu on. My movies are stored on an external 1TB HDD. How would I go about getting my media onto Infuse, is it possible with my setup?
How have the men in Black suites not knocked on your door? 😕I run an 80TB Plex Server with over 5,000 movies. It runs on a 8x CPU Xeon E7-2850 1TB RAM + 80 Cores / 160 threads server. It has no issues streaming to my AppleTV or Infuse 5.
Extensively.
Plex has 3 streaming modes.
1. DirectPlay(will not do this as AppleTV does not support MKV natively)
The streams need to be correct. Meaning AVC (lately also HEVC) for video and AAC stereo or DD5.1 for audio. To be correct, Plex WILL DirectPlay to an Apple TV so long as the source file is correct.
Just wondering how everyone else's experience with PLEX on the 4th Gen Apple TV has been. It has completely revolutionized how I experience my media. Right now I'm running a couple of Mediasonic ProBoxes connected to my gaming PC.
My movie collection is comprised of MKVs made from my Bluray collection using MakeMKV.
My ideal plan is to purchase an i7 Mac Mini or one of those Intel NUCs. I believe this would be better than running a loud tower all day. I'd also like to invest in a more permanent storage solution. Since I don't have any sort of redundancy data loss could be a huge issue.
