I just picked up a used 12" rMB, 1.1GHz / 256GB Gold version for very cheap (about USD 750, including the USB adapter and HDMI adapter from Apple). This will replace my rather new 13" rMBP, early 2015.

I'm looking forward to using this as my primary machine. Only reason I would want to upgrade to the new generation is that the 256GB is not enough... But I couldn't pass up this deal!

Wow. Great price. eBay?

Awesome price!

What plans do you have for your 13"?

No actually not - a local forum here in Switzerland. Went to pick it up in person yesterday. I couldn't pass it u for that price! Even though the 256GB feels like a limitation...

My 13" rMBP will stay in the background for a couple of weeks, to see if the 12" rMB can handle everything I do with it. Once I feel comfortable enough, it'll go to my student brother - at least it stays in the family. I am very much a single machine type of gal, so don't like to have more than one dedicated laptop.

The 13" rMBP feels so heavy compared to the 12" rMB! And so far the base model has been able to do everything I want without a lag, so I'm super happy! Still might consider going for the Skylake version, depending on what comes out and how much of an upgrade it actually is.

100 Fluid
One question regarding the performance of the MB12: Is the scrolling in Chrome 100% fluid? I'm on a late 2013" MBP and is see just a little bit of stuttering (many people wouldn't even notice, but i'm a bit OCD about it). I guess the GPU is comparable. Safari is 100% smooth so far, but i still like Chrome..

100 percent fluid. If you are a typist, and like the keyboard, you will have NO problems with this machine. Whatever the numbers say, it is faster and smoother than my 2013 AIR. If you are not a typist, you will love it. The only problem an user has is the keyboard, which like all keyboards is not for everyone.

I am a web developer who needs to use Photoshop/Illustrator to create some print materials at times. So far so good. My previous machine was a MBA 13 i5, so there is no performance increase for sure, yet the overall feel, comfort of having a 12" very light device plus the screen makes this a great on the go device. I keep most of my work on the cloud anyways so I can live without the ports (I wish my office decided to move everything to the cloud too, unfortunately they are a decade behind). It is the best travel partner ever (had to work across US & Canada last week) and if you are a guy/gal who likes to keep things simple, streamlined & light, this is the machine for you.

Only issue I think I will run into is the battery life - I will be purchasing an apple care so that I dont have to worry about it for atleast another 2years.

I'm a few days into using one as my main notebook and I have to say I like it. The lightness is great, the keyboard does take some getting used to though. I remember reading during the launch that typing on it was like typing on the iPad glass but hardly.

I use it as my primary machine every single day for work (Office2016, web and a lot of mails etc. in Outlook) and at home as well mostly surfing, photos, spotify, mail and such stuff.

I'm no heavy user at all, but this is by far the best machine I have used to date. I haven't experienced a single moment where I needed more power than it has or missed size (come from a 15" pro I still have as well)... It's (very) light, LOVE the small footprint and that I have it in my bag every day, don't have to bring my charger to the office and never miss power...

Might go for a bit bigger screen at the home office when doing the heavy lifting with big spreadsheets and a lot of documents at once, but not in a hurry...

Oh - and the single port hasn't been bothering me even once... I'm not a big port using guy anyway... For reference mine is the 512gb model

I was wondering how the transition from the 2015 13" MBP to the 2015 rMB is going. I have the same MBP and was thinking about selling it to get a refurb rMB.

$1100 seems worth it to me for those specs on the 2015 model. I bought the 2015 rMB 1.3/8gb/512gb on 4/4 for full price, and loved it.

Then did my homework and waited for the refresh and swapped it out. The 2016 is noticeably faster, and I was pleased with the 2015 (an welcomer upgrade from a 2012 13" MBAir). The screen size was my primary concern, as I use it for my main computer, and write a fair amount every week. But the keyboard and screen (and the clarity of retina!) have all been an easy adjustment and a clear improvement. The light weight makes it very portable, it is dead silent, and the single port is not an issue at all for what I do.

Most of my work is done of the Office suite, plus a few book research programs, internet search, etc. Photos and music in the Apple suite. No gaming or heavy photo editing, so I can't speak to that.

I would do it again.

When it comes to Apple products, MacBook Laptops are, and have been my all time favorites since 1991. I've owned plenty of competitive brands, models and sizes. Owning every current MacBook, any of these are fine as primary, except for the newest MacBook. It's just too thin, keyboard travel too shallow, CPU too slow to tolerate as ones primary laptop.

I have mine connected to my external display. That is when I notice the most slow down. Periodically my Apple Bluetooth mouse and Apple last gen keyboard will disconnect and I will have to restart my machine to get Bluetooth to work again. I have left multiple tabs open in Safari somewhere between 2 to 4 tabs watching Netflix and editing photos with Capture One and I don't get very much slow down and that is all while connected to an Apple 27 inch LED Cinema Display. The slow down seems to happen when 6-8 tabs in Safari are open and I leave Capture One open too. Then Bluetooth disconnects and the pinwheel starts.

I get the weird bluetooth connectivity issues too. Tried to get it "fixed" at the Apple store, and they say it's weird, but don't really know what to do. Just recommend OS reinstalls each time, which don't help.

Very well, I don't notice much performance difference at all to be honest. I don't use it for anything heavy, and I haven't tried to edit photos on it yet, but it fits perfectly for my use case (streaming to Apple TV, music, browsing, Handbrake, torrents). It is so light that it goes everywhere with me in the house - just like my iPad.

I also have no issues with the single port, although I did order the Anker USB-C and USB-A charging ( https://www.anker.com/products/A2052211 ), as it will allow me to charge my other devices as well. That's the only reason I miss the USB ports on my 13" rMBP really.

I am super happy with the 12" rMB and I wish I had switched earlier!

Just made the move from a 13 rMBP mid 2014 2.9 512/8GB ... 3 days ago and cloned it for a like for like experience ... even using Fusion to run win 7 (Visio and MS Project) and no sweat .. beats the old one hands down on day to day performance ... its now my main machine as I sold the rMBP to a buddy yesterday ...
