not me, personally but I’m very curious to hear who value the multiple color options and battery life over the newer features...? Not there’s anything wrong with that, the red color is so appealing to me, but it’s not enough reason.

iPhone X Anyone who actually going to downgrade their X to a XR?

I am. Many reasons why actually.
1) the screen is larger, much larger, and that is what I hate about my X the most.
2) the battery life will be the best on any of the phones you can buy. Yes it will be even better than the Max. My X battery life sucks.
3) it has all the same internals as the XS and the XS MAX. Only difference being the 3GB Ram vs the 4GB ram.
There is a reason no one seems to be buying the XS and Max this year. People are waiting for the XR, or they are waiting for a “real” max next year.

Many phone carriers are offering BOGO on the iPhone X 2017, or even free with credits over 24 months.
Maybe hold out to see when they offer them for the iPhone XS 2018 or iPhone XR?

Free is always good but is it really free? I don’t understand the US cell offerings. Certainly you can’t get it free in Canada. You just pay for it via price premiums in phone plans.
Screen is a little bigger but resolution is lesser 2,436x1,125 @ 458 ppi vs 1,792x828 @ 326 ppi and is LCD, not OLED. So a little give and take...I thought the X screen would be big enough for me when it came out but it's skinnier than the + models so cramps the keyboard a bit. I opted for the Max this time around as a result.
I got two iPhone 7's free through AT&T for me and my wife.
Basically, it's a 24-month contract... you pay ~$30 a month for a phone every month, and AT&T gives you a ~$30 credit every month that you're with AT&T.
If you stay for 24 months, the phone is free. (My last payment/credit is on Sept 20)
If you leave AT&T before the 24 months, you stop getting credits, but still owe the remaining installments.
We were never planing to leave AT&T (been with them since 2007), so it's free for us.
Yeah but can you get a cheaper plan with no phone through retentions? Generally the retail plans are more expensive.
I did the exact same thing with the 8+ last year. I so bad want to upgrade to the Max, but I just can't see giving up "free" money/phone.
The plans (with AT&T) are the same whether or not you use their 24-month buy-a-phone program (called AT&T NEXT). AT&T just doesn't have contracts anymore... I think all US carriers stopped that about 2-3 years ago... and this is their new way to sort of have contracts.
There are cheaper carriers, but the only 2 that I've found (in my area) that work off the main roads are Verizon and AT&T.
T-Mobile and Sprint are 2 other options, and they work fine in metropolis areas, but take them out in the country and they have many dead spots.

Each carrier in the U.S. agrees to 'buy' a certain number of Apple phones. If the sales are down, they will start to offer the BOGO or 'free' phones. Just wait until mid-October, I bet we'll have some deals on iPhone X models.
Yes I realize this but are there no other retention plans? As in you threaten to leave and they give you a cheaper plan reserved for retentions?
Or is their phone credit their only retention method these days?

BTW, the tab method you describe is similar up here in Canada, but is essentially still a contract in practice.
