OK. Here's what System Report says about BT on my brand new 13'' M2 MBA purchased (ordered on June 14 AFIK) shortly after the 15" MBA was announced. My question is, how do I interpret this???? How do I tell if I have BT 5.3 or BT 5.0???

NOTE: This is a 16/1TB machine, so it was CTO and shipped from China, not from US stock. Hopefully, that means it got the BT 5.3 chip. (Or can the 5.0 chip be firmware-updated to 5.3 anyway???). So many questions, so few answers.

Bluetooth Controller:

Basically, the exact same as mine.

Have a look at this:

Yup. I saw that on the US Tech Specs web page. That's what suggested to me that even older MBAs might be firmware-upgradable from 5.0 to 5.3--because it lists those specs as relating to MBAs introduced in 2022. That said, I did not check that particular spec at the time when I ordered my MBA, so I have no idea what the specs page said on June 14 (or so) when I actually ordered the MBA.

So do you reckon we have 5.3, or do you think there will be a firmware update?

I suspect we already have 5.3 based on what it says in the MacRumors article (which I should have read more closely before posting my original post--DUH!!):

"All new Mac, iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch models released since September 2022 support Bluetooth 5.3, as do the second-generation AirPods Pro."

But I don't know that for certain.

Mine was bought in December, so should also be included.

However, it’s all such a mystery.

Why can’t they make these things more clearer?

What colour did you get, by the way? Mine is starlight, and I love it. It’s a great little machine.

I also read that both were on the same chipset.

So your MBA was bought after the 15” was announced?
Yes. It was purchased right after the 15" was announced along with the price drop on the 13". I think I placed the order on June 14. I know that I actually got the MBA on June 21. Not sure exactly when the 15" was announced but it definitely was before I place my order because I had been holding back on ordering until the price dropped.

Mine is the Midnight and I absolutely love the color!

And I wholeheartedly agree that the MBA is a great little machine. Like my iPad mini 6, I find I'm using my smaller, less powerful device (MBA) more often than I use my heavier, more powerful 16" M1 Pro MBP and my 12.9" 2018 iPad Pro.

I also have my M2 16” MBP, which is another lovely computer, but I think the little M2 MBA has more character, if that makes any sense?

This made me considering to trade in my iPad Pro 11 with new iPad Mini (hopefully will be released shortly).

I wouldn’t buy an iPad that doesn’t have stereo speakers.

The Mini intrigues me, but they’d have to add stereo speakers for me to consider it.
