Hi all,
I'm currently using iOS 18 and iPad OS 18 on my devices. I have an old Mac running Catalina on which I have my media libraries stored, and I was planning to serve that media to the iDevices using Home Sharing. So I set it all up, tested, and found that annoyingly play counts aren't getting updated when I play music via the iPhone or iPad.
(To be clear, I'm not referring to playing tracks synced to the devices' internal libraries. I'm using the Media Sharing / Home Sharing function in System Preferences. And I do, of course, have ‘update play counts’ enabled!)
I've tested using another Mac to connect to the shared library, and play counts do get updated.
I've tested using someone else's devices, also running iOS 18, and play counts don't get updated.
So it looks like it's an iOS 18 bug. I was therefore wondering: could someone who's running iOS/iPadOS 26, or even the 27 beta, give Home Sharing a try and let me know if play counts are now working please?
My reason for asking is that I was planning to stay on iOS 18 for a while, but this bug is really annoying me so if people report back saying it's been fixed in newer OSes, it might tempt me to upgrade sooner…
Thanks in advance!
