question is mostly intended for LG screen owners.

there is a version of the LG panel called SJA2, and the rumors is at the apple discussion site that this one is perhaps the fixed one.

if people write about their 2013 LGs, it would help.

the terminal script will let you know what you have. so please all MBPr owners with the revised 2013, run the code and let us know.

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

You already started a thread about this...

MacBook Pro
Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013

Haven't seen any ghosting...

no read my original thread again.

This is about the new panel that was not written about back then.

such an important issue and flaw should be even more discussed now that there is a lawsuit against apple (finally) ;-)

I bought a 15" rMBP today. First one was an SJA2 LG panel. Asked for them to open another, and it was an SJA1. Third one was another SJA2. Kept the first one, as it was perfect cosmetically.

Hoping it has no issues. I have so far seen no IR/ghosting and no other issues of any kind. I've left some finder windows static for quite a while without any retention.

Curious to see if anyone posts about an SJA2 with IR. So far haven't been able to find any posts online from SJA2 owners who have the issue. Fingers crossed that LG fixed it.

You have to wait several months to be sure.

So we will see, in several months.

Reports seem to be in conflict - some people notice IR on LG screens immediately, and others have to wait months. Why?

Also, why would LG introduce a revised panel with a new model number without fixing the IR issue? Wouldn't that be the entire purpose of a new revision of the screen?

There's something in LG's screen technology, or manufacturing process, that causes this image retention. Not all screens are manufactured exactly the same, some screens might develop the issue earlier than others.

I don't think anyone except LG, or a display expert, has the answer to why the problem exists. You can bet that neither Apple or LG want to comment on this. You see a new revision, yet the only thing you can do is speculate... unfortunately.

So, if I was to go buy a 2013 15" MBPr and given I got a LG display, would it be a SJA2? In other words, are there any SJA1 panels still being sold in a 2013 rMBP.

Got a 2013 with the new revision LG one. So far so good. :apple:

Where did you buy, apple store, apple online, or third-party?

Based on my samplings of posts, seems like the SJA2 has fixed the IR at least greatly lessened the chance of a defect. Matter of fact, I'm thinking with the LG better color/contrast and probably tested to the hilt, the SJA2 may be the preferred panel to get.

I've had my revised 2013 rMBP 15" with the SJA1 panel for about a week. No issues so far.

Let's hope so, because the way things are going we will not be getting anything Samsung-made in future MacBooks. Time for LG to step up its game.

Got it at a apple store.

I'm following the apple support forums and the LG SJA2 also has retention problems. It seems to be the same panel.

I am getting a replacement macbook pro retina I am praying for a non LG panel after reading all of these complaints. I never buy applecare and am considering it for this laptop just because of all the issues I am hearing about.

Applecare is a really good move, in particular for the retinas because repairs are likely to be expensive out of warranty.

Lg sja2

I returned my 2013 15" rMBP 2.7 with a Samsung panel for a 2.4 with the hopes I would receive a LG SJA2. I got what I wanted and I can tell you that the LG panels are much better visually than the Samsung. Colors are more vibrant and accurate not to mention the white point is much better. I did not really need the 2.7 so I saved myself the extra dollars and am now quite pleased. No image retention at all.

Anyone who has bought rMBP 15 inch 2013 "revised" model that has ghosting iss...

I had a lot of image retention on a 2012 base model rMBP with LG display. I finally purchased the newer 2013 model which came with a LG display as well. This LG does not have the IR issues that I saw in the 2012 model. I haven't had the opportunity to compare it side by side with a 2013 Samsung but it look great and the blacks are superb.
