Maybe a ridiculous question, but my daughter and I were talking about the pro max, and she was curious about possibly just using it instead of an ipad with a keyboard for some of the few things she does online. It would just keep her devices to a minimum - they are military and on the road a lot, and multiple devices are just a lot to always keep up with.

I told her I’d ask on here because it seems like there are always people who have tried different things.

Just wondering what people think about logistics of this?

It’s highly not recommended. As the screen is too small, her eyes would be strained. An ipad mini is much better than iPhone 12 Pro Max to be used with keyboard. Using it under portrait mode would serve the purpose I think. Rest, the decision is always yours. 👍🏻

If the phone was used in landscape, it wouldn't be bad. I have used the phone in this manner a few times with a keyboard. While not optimal, it can get a person buy for th few things that might need to be done once a month etc.

I kinda figured it would be less than optimal. She definitely needs to use something daily, although not for a lot of different things. A lot of it is stuff she’d do on her phone anyway, but just not a great typing experience for things that may require a bit more typing. I guess that’s what got us thinking about it.

Respect your opinion and the way of use. dont u think an iPad mini with a keyboard case would be flexible, easy on eyes and wrists of the kid using it. Also, it would be much cheaper than an iPhone 12 Pro Max .. ur comments are welcome😊

An iPad mini would be the optimal choice, provided budget was not an issue. It wouldn't take up anymore room than a Bluetooth keyboard. The minor problem is you would need to tether the mini to the phone for service. As long as charging was available, it would cease to be a minor problem.

If she needs it daily, forget the keyboard. She really should get a iPad mini. It will give her a larger keyboard to type with.

The OP is saying she wants to keep devices to a minimum, a iPad is a iPad, you can't make calls on it and you definitely can't put it in your pocket.

This is what I use, Logitech K480, has a device selector knob for up to 3 devices, you can switch between devices on the fly (or if someone in her unit wants to borrow her keyboard she doesn't have to reconnect every time she gets it back).

That looks cool, like it could sit on a desk or table and she could use it for times when she wants to type longer responses to things, or a quick letter in notes or something.

She has other devices, but this would be for times when she is here for a couple months while her husband is on a sub, and she doesn’t wanna pack up everything she owns to bring with her because she swaps time at our house and her in-law’s, and it’s just a lot of devices to worry about.

Another option is to set up a separate user account for her on your Mac (for use when she is there). It stays secure and that way she doesn't have to worry about carrying anything to your house.

True, and that would work except I don’t have a Mac. I mean she can use my iPad for some things but it’s mainly just when she is typing longer things like emails to her husband, posts on forums, stuff like that where she doesn’t want to use her phone keyboard, but doesn’t really NEED an iPad. And it’s stuff that is specific to her phone and contacts, so not as easily done on my iPad
