Didn‘t Intel postpone them to the end of 2019? This will result in Apple offering them in their laptops in 2020 at the earliest. And by then, Intel will have announced the next generation and the waiting game repeats itself. I guess at some point you simply have to pull the trigger :)

I agree. Which is why I decided to just buy the i9 now.
 
I just got an email from the guys who designed the SVALT dock for the last gen MBP, which was well reviewed to mitigate throttling in that generation, but since the center rear air inlet is now gone in the 2016-2018 generation it's pretty much moot!

However .... he did say they're close to releasing a new dock designed for the current generation, specifically testing with the i9 right now. The old model was the only cooling dock that actually took into account the MacBooks airflow (as opposed to just blowing air at the base) .. hopefully their new model can actually improve desktop performance with air going into the right places!
