Figured it's been out long enough that hopefully some folks have tried it out. I hear it's very CPU intensive so I wonder how well the i( can handle it.

It's on steam.

It’s a big ass game but my 2020 iMac is handling it well (in 1080p or 1440p) in Boot Camp. I haven't spent enough time with it to really test or benchmark but I have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate so I downloaded it when I setup my system this weekend.

Xbox Game Pass PC is $1 for the first month, Flight Simulator 2020 is included there, easy to try it out if it works

runs 1440p medium settings, some high building textures, 40-50fps average on my 3rd tier 5500xt iMac, fine for the occasional flight I do, imagine if you have upgraded GPU it would work great.

It is PC only at this point. No Xbox version has been released yet. Download from Microsoft or steam. No physical disks available for US buyers.

Yes I'm aware it's windows only, most people are going to be gaming in windows anyway for the better performance.

I use it @1440p and mostly Ultra settings (clouds only High - they cost a lot of frames). Fan is on the whole time, but I don't care in this context. Frames/s are good, but only between 20 and 30 in areas like New York (still flyable). 4K is frame wise no option. In general at 1440p GPU limited with my Mac (i9, 5700XT) and the bootcamp display drivers are probably not perfect yet. All in all still a lot of tiny bugs in the sim, but the visuals compensate for that. Sadly currently only DirectX 11 optimised, with DirectX12 it would probably use the hardwares potential much better.

Lol. Microsoft's own game doesn't use Microsoft's owns latest graphics technology ?

Typical MS...

This game has probably been in development for years. I am sure the team prioritized shipping a working game this year over a conversion to DirectX 12.

I can't wait to try this sim. But not supporting so many flight controls without mapping them yourself, then not having a manual (not on line yet), reeks of a rushed product. "Make it pretty" and get it out there. Even when casual users don't even know how to release the parking brake. Incredible.

perhaps it has something to do with the fact that under dx11, vram is managed by the system, while under dx12, it's up to the developer.
