As a T-Mobile customer, will you upgrade this year? Or will you wait for next year?

I don't understand why not having Band 71 concerns people on T-Mobile.

If Band 71 didn't exist for T-Mobile at all would there be concern?

T-Mobile has three other bands and people report blazing speeds on those bands. No one has reported (yet) a blazing speed on Band 71.

What is it you are missing when you have Band 2, 4 and 12 already?
While I’m not in the market for a tv right now, if I was, I’d probably be looking at 4K, despite content still being somewhat sparse. That’s really the best analogy I can give. I can spend $1000 plus taxes, if applicable, today to buy a phone that already won’t be supporting a spectrum I could utilize (potentially) in the coming weeks and months.

For those who drop their phone for a new one yearly, it’s less of an issue. The OP is on a 6, so I’m assuming it’s been about three years. I don’t know that I’d be 100% comfortable with that purchase.

Dang, you got me thinking now. I typically buy every three years -- if the 8 is going to be "obsolete" on T-Mobile within a year or so, perhaps this is not a smart buy. I'll be right back in the same situation I am now with the 6+. Food for thought.

It is a tricky decision to make, though it would be nice if there was some official statement that said T-Mobile will be enhancing and building out other bands besides this new one just to assure customers that they do not need to make band 71 a 'priority' to consider.

Sorry, I have to disagree.

Your points about what T-Mobile is doing with their network are valid of course.

I don't upgrade every year. Right now I average about 25 down on T-Mobile on Band 4. That's pretty damn useful to me and I have a two year old phone.

Band 12 is what is rolling out in Phoenix. That's what I have been waiting for. Band 71 is nice, but I won't see any of that until next year.

Personally, I think your concern is a year too early. I could understand this thread next year.

I know it matters to you, but I have to say you are probably in a minority here that cares about this at this moment.
Well said. I am glad to see someone, on the Internet, be polite and considerate of another person's perspective(s), while (completely?) disagreeing with (him /) her.

OP made valid points about the network, and as I understand this topic now it's more in the light of future proofing your phone versus actually being concerned that Band 71 is included or not in the present.

In that context, I recognize OP's point in that if you don't (like me) upgrade every year or so, two or three years from now you'll have a phone that is not capable of using Band 71 and therefore not being able to take advantage of 5G whenever that happens.

I kind of missed that angle in my replies, but in my viewpoint Band 2, 4 and 12 are still enough at this time and at least for another year. It isn't like T-Mob will stop using those frequencies.

Apple might have been trapped because they have to use two different modems instead of one.

I heard that the Qualcomm modem supports Gigabit LTE, but they turned it off because they also had to use Intel modems.

I would not be too surprised to learn that the Qualcomm modem had Band 71 but they turned it off because of the Intel modems.

This is sheer conjecture on my part, and I do not have any information about this.
This is a Question I Have is can the Qualcomm Version run band 71 if I was to jailbreak it and unlock th3 feature or is it not on the Qualcomm modem at all ( I would hope it is since every new android flagship has it)

The Verizon and Sprint versions have an up to date Qualcomm modem; however, I do not believe that iOS jailbreaking would be able to find Band 71, even if it is there.
