I ordered an i7 from the Apple store on Wednesday, but it hasn't shipped yet. Now, if you go on the web store and select the i7 option, the shipping estimate is 2-4 days instead of the original 1-3. So, just out of curiosity, has anyone had their i7 ship yet?

I ordered mine(i7 upgrade) online within the first few hours they went on sale wednesday. For me, it has always said 1-3 business days. I called and asked about it and they said, all 'custom' builds take that long or longer. My delivery dat only says the 26th-28th, so I'm guessing they will ship Monday.

I cto an i7 server on day 1 and called Apple support to change configurations. Originally when ordering online it said 1-3 days but my order status says ships in 2-4 days and not shipped yet. Apple support said that they were actually building the cto minis after they are ordered, no stockpile of multiple configs laying around waiting for a customer I guess. My delivery date is July 27-29 and has not changed.

The nice lady said exactly that it will be shipping from overseas after it has been built.

I ordered my 2.7 GHz i7 Mac Mini about 90 minutes after it went live and it still says it hasn't shipped.

It'll probably come from Shanghai, so when it does ship, it will be at a random time at night (our time).

I only ordered mine late on the 22nd so I don't expect mine to ship until the second half of next week. My estimated delivery date is currently August 2nd.

What about the server version, which comes with i7 by default? Not in the physical stores?
The server model is available in stores but it's not the same as the regular high end Mini. The regular high end Mini has an AMD Radeon discrete GPU and a dual core i5 CPU. The 2.7 dual core i7 is a custom option only available through Apple's online store. The server model comes with the integrated Intel GPU that uses shared memory and a 2.0 Quad Core i7 as standard.

Essentially there is a trade off there. Either you can have a higher speed Dual Core CPU with the better GPU or a lower speed but more powerful Quad Core CPU with a much less powerful GPU. It all depends on your uses and what particular software you use.

The hard drives on both can also be customised but again only through Apple's online store.

That said I'm sure I have seen the odd online retailer other then Apple offering the Dual Core i7.

It seem like the i7+750 GB hard drive is a popular combo. (Admittedly the sample size is a bit small.)

my 2010 server has twin 500 GB. I like the size but i can't go backwards on the disk RPM. That 7200 RPM is critical IMO.

Notice that I went with the 5400 drive? I thought I'd save the $150 upgrade for the 7200 and put it towards an SSD later this fall and large TB drives. I think we can expect a bunch of new TB offerings in the next six months.
So my final config will have an SSD for the OS and apps internal (no moving parts internal), thunderbolt external drives for all other data and of course add memory to 8gb. :D
